We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lakesha Henderson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lakesha, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Lace Kouture Boutique LLC. was built off a young lady battling low self-esteem. Being a plus-size young lady along with body shaming was very HARD!! growing up. It wasn’t until I became a plus-size model and start feeling confident in my skin and loving who I was. Then it hit me like Kesha! You need to help others battling with this same issue. Show them how to look good and feel even better. Also as parents we need to show and teach our kids that their beautiful no matter WHAT!! My purpose is to bring body positivity awareness near and far to all women, build up their confidence to an all HIGH through fashion. We are more than just a boutique; we are a community a sisterhood. For the record LACE stands for Love Acceptance Conquers Everything!!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Lace Kouture Boutique LLC. is an online plus-size clothing boutique who caters to sizes 1x-3x. We are located in Thomasville, NC. Where we offer private shopping for our clients. You work late “don’t worry we gotcha” you need to come on your lunch break “don’t worry we gotcha”. This is what sets us apart from others. We’re here for all your needs and we just want to make sure your overall experience is great. I’m so proud of the women we have impacted along their journey helping them build their self-esteem up. I can’t stress it enough on how we are more than a boutique. We are a community who thrives on body positivity and confidence. I really enjoy hosting events for women and just catering to their needs. I’m so proud of how far we have come from just day dreaming of one day being an entrepreneur to living the life. I’m so grateful for the features in a few magazines articles too being asked to participate in London’s Christmas Market 2022. Just stepping out on FAITH and trying things I would have never done before. Hosting my first pop up shop in Atlanta Ga. where we had business owners from all over the world come out and showcase there brand. I’m very GRATEFUL & HUMBLE. Make sure you stay connected with us on all our social media platforms. Also, opt into our LacekoutureBabe VIP SMS marketing. where we drop all the new arrivals along with gifts in our birthday Klub and discounts on all events. Just text VIP to 1 844-714-1535.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
In 2020 I made the decision to have a major surgery for preventive matters. In 2019 I tested positive for the BRCA gene which is a genetic test for breast and ovarian cancer. When I first found out I was shocked and scared but not surprised due to my family history with some aunts, my dad and many other family members. But it was more of knowing what takes place because I had worked in the medical field for over twenty years and worked at a cancer center. So nerveless to say my nerves was on a thousand. All I know is I needed to be here for my children and my grandson so I took my oldest son advice and went for it. So I pivoted from a full time medical assistant to a full time entrepreneur not knowing how to switch up the roles. But I must say it has been a huge change but a great one as well. Being able to connect and get educated by some amazing individuals has been awesome. I just want to continue to thrive for greatness for myself and others and show my children the way of making lifelong decisions for there future.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn how to apply just as much energy into my own brand instead of someone else’s. I have always been a caretaker so learning how to take care of others on a different platform was a little challenging but I’m up for it. It’s similar because in the healthcare field you cater to there needs. Owning a boutique you cater to there needs and wants so I continue to treat people the way I want to be treated regardless of where. The greatest thing about being the boss is you make the decisions on what to do and how to do it. I’m going to continue to stand on lifting others up no matter the size or color or background.
