We were lucky to catch up with LaKesa McGraw recently and have shared our conversation below.
LaKesa, appreciate you joining us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
I pray that my legacy will be that I loved out loud, prayed even louder and openly shared my gift with the world. I want people to remember the generational curses that I broke, the risk that I took and the support that surrounded me. I wish people to remember that as black woman, I realized the importance of my strength, but also found value in simply being human. I am a game changer!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Yes. well, to be honest, I was born to do what I am doing. However, like so many, I ran from my purpose, because I didn’t think I was qualified to do it. I remember being a kid and giving advice, being able to share in other’s emotions and show empathy. I knew that I was different, but of course, I didn’t fully understand my gift. I went on to school, completing my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and my master’s in Human Resources Management and a number of certifications, ranging from Project Management to Business Acumen and in 2017, directly after completing my master’s I enrolled in school to become a Certified Life Coach.
I had the gift, but I desired to fully develop the skill in a way that would allow me to not just be a professional, but impactful as well. Directly after completing my program, Inside of Y.O.U., LLC, (affectionally named by my Mother, Rozitta McGaw) was born. As a Certified Life Coach, Master Trainer, Author, and Inspirational Speaker, my job is to help my clients release, regroup, reinvent and restore the passion for life within. I offer consultations to ensure that I am the person to give you the results that you seek. Once we consult, I then send share with my clients the number of packages that I offer based on what we discussed. I get asked often, how I keep all of the balls in the air and tell people that when you love what you do, it never feels like work; this is my calling.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The beauty of life is understanding that you can’t pick your teachers. Your parents were your first and they could only teach you what they knew. My Grandmother used to always say, “keep living,” and it wasn’t until she passed away that I understood the saying. See, you have to be willing to learn and unlearn based on what is conducive to the life that you wish to live. I have had to unlearn many lessons, one being that everyone does not deserve access to you. I have always been a giver and at one point, I felt that I needed to pull away from everyone, to save myself. However, in actuality, it wasn’t that I needed to shy away from the world, but rather, understand that everyone in the world, does not deserve to see or experience that part of you me.
I am thankful for each lesson, and I am excited to see what God has in store for me next.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My resilience has been shown throughout my life. I have experienced loss on traumatic levels. Loss of love, family, finances and self. It takes a resilient person to pick up the pieces of your broken heart and keep going. One thing that I have learned is that with every waking moment, you have the opportunity to get it right, to try again and again, never really starting from nothing, but from experience. Resilience is your ability to withstand, despite the difficult uncontrollable waves of life. I find comfort in controlling what I can and releasing what I can’t, that is what makes me resilient.
