We were lucky to catch up with Lakeisha Heard recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lakeisha, thanks for joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Success isn’t measured by money or power or social rank. Success is measured by your discipline and inner peace. -Mike Ditka
Before I can answer what I think it takes to become successful. I must first define ‘success’.
Success according to Oxford languages is defined as ‘the accomplishment of an aim or purpose’.
(Purpose for some that can be to become rich and famous, not me).
My purpose and passion just so happen to align. To help people. The one thing that makes me feel like ‘success’ is knowing I helped someone! I am passionate about helping others.
If a fellow cosmetologist is struggling with braiding. I will offer to give tips and/or show her step-by-step things to do to make the braids better. She then performs the service on a client who tells all her friends and that stylist gained more clients.. SUCCESS!
If a friend is struggling to get a vehicle because of credit and I give them tips on getting a better credit rating and keeping it that way and they pull up in a brand new vehicle.. SUCCESS!
Single mom looking for a job and has a Cosmetology degree, I offer her a booth in MY salon and she gets booked and busy.. SUCCESS!!
I have successfully helped others accomplish the things they aimed to do, get, become, achieve, etc
I am at peace because of it, I AM SUCCESSFUL!!
I am not successful because of my income, I am not successful because I own a business, I am not successful because of my large clientele base.. but I am successful because I am passionate about my purpose and accomplishing my purpose brings me peace!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

H²O Hair Hydration Oil
Hair Hydration Oil was birthed because I was using a different oil on ALL OF MY CLIENTS, lol
I started to get complaints about the smell of the oil I was using with styles that were meant to be in a while, such as sew ins and box braids. The oil I used had a rather ‘earthy smell’ and didn’t mesh well with everyone especially my clients who worked out, so I started adding other essential oils that smelled good but were beneficial like peppermint oil. Peppermint oil smelled good and also stimulated the scalp.
Well after while I began to think I can do this myself, I can take all the ingredients from the back of the oil bottle I’d been using and add the things I like, peppermint, lavender, etc bottle it and use that on my clients.
Well it wasn’t that simple. I couldn’t find some of the things and others I wanted to omit. I reached out to manufacturers for private labeling but the cost was too high for me.
I began to research for myself different oils the hair health benefit and how they worked together. I put together a few formulas and tried the oil on myself for quite some time. I noticed growth, less dandruff, no build-up, etc so I moved on to family and friends and eventually clients. Intangible Inches Hair Oil was officially for sale in 2015 and renamed by trademark in 2020. H²O Hair Hydration Oil
