We recently connected with LaKedra Brown and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, LaKedra thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you tell us about an important lesson you learned while working at a prior job?
I would have to say that one of the most important lessons I learned from a job prior to becoming a business owner is great work ethics. I learned the importance of not just standing on business but being about my business. Doing your work with integrity…being prompt and how to stay ahead of the game.
Being ex military, I quickly learned a great deal of discipline and structure. Pushing through even when you don’t feel like it…being dependable because it is not always about “You”! I also learned the value of learning everything you can while I was working for the State. Knowledge is truly power and I soaked up everything I could!!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
I manufactured my first product this year and I was super excited!! I developed a 30 day journal that went into production the earlier part of last year and was completed and delivered around October. I had no idea how to manufacture a product. I didn’t realize so much time and money went into producing a product. I learned so much about the manufacturing process.
I was so thankful to have a social media manager who knows everything about the manufacturing business and process. She specialized in product development and therefore she was the perfect person for the job.
I learned that manufacturing a product is not an overnight process. If you want to produce a product make sure you not only have the time to dedicate to completing the product but the money as well.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I learned early in life that sometimes things just don’t always go as planned. There will be times when you may have to change the game a bit or pivot from one point to another in every aspect of my life…ie; business, career, education, etc…and I’m here to tell you, even though it was necessary it wasn’t always easy.
There was this one particular time in my career when I had to make a major decision that actually changed the course of my entire life. When I graduated with my Master’s Degree, I knew that staying in corporate America is not what I wanted to do, however walking away from a solid and secure income wasn’t a part of the plan either…but the more and more I tried to hold on the harder it became. I literally felt myself becoming ill every time I walked through those doors.
It was like something in me just broke and I knew it was time to go. I quit my job and decided to step out on faith. I didn’t have a real plan but I knew I couldn’t stay there
