We were lucky to catch up with LaJoyce Jones recently and have shared our conversation below.
LaJoyce, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
There are two different legacy perspectives Angeline Studios hopes to accomplish. The first perspective is that through travel photography, audiences are able to see sites that they may never be exposed to in real life. Life can make it seemingly impossible to see worldwide beauty and Angeline Studios provides a glimpse of that behind the lens. The second perspective is capturing real moments with real people, making real memories. Getting caught in the trends of the world can be fun and entertaining, but we all want to glance back to dear moments that were real to us! Angeline Studios strives to achieve these legacies for all to see and experience!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is LaJoyce Jones and I am the founder and operator of Angeline Studios. I started photography as a fun, amateur hobby and turned it into a business as my passion for it began to grow. I provide a variety of different packages that include but are not limited to family portraits, lifestyle, graduation, special events, branding and more! Two major challenges clients tend to have are posing and shoot themes/ideas. When clients come to me, they do not have to worry about posing themselves. I will guide them through the shoot and do my best to create a comfortable environment in front of the camera for them! For shoot themes and ideas, clients are able to provide as much details as they would like and I will help them form a direction that will accomplish what they are looking for! I am most proud of the flexibility of my business. I have had the opportunity to serve a range of clients that come with a variety of ideas. Whether its a concept, location, working with children, etc. Angeline Studios has been able to accommodate all clients served thus far!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn is perfection in photography. Many individuals believe it is the photographer and editors job to make the final photo look “flawless” and to be honest, I started striving for that. One day, I was looking at the work from another photographer (which I do sometimes do to get inspiration) and I asked myself, “what is real in this photo?” I thought, “while this photo is gorgeous beyond any facet of the imagination, the individual in it looks almost…well fake.” For me and my business, I want my clients to look back to real moments, not moments which were fixed to seem “perfect.” Yes, I understand some photography has its reasons for perfected edits and I myself make some edits as well, however, I ultimately want my existing and potential clients to know I will not make you look “flawless” because that is not real. Angeline Studios strives to capture real moments with real people.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a photographer and creative in general is the impact. Making individuals feel special in front of the camera, capturing their precious moments, forming a relationship to point of loyalty are some of the most rewarding aspects of this. For me, this is what accomplishment is. It is not booking the client or even delivering the final photos. It’s the clients comments of how they felt during the shoot, their reaction to final product, and their decision to continue the relationship with Angeline Studios.
