We were lucky to catch up with Laila Williams recently and have shared our conversation below.
Laila, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
I would like to be remembered as a fighter. Someone who never gave up no matter how hard life tried to knock me down. I want to be known for my heart and how I treated others. Prioritizing kindness, empathy, and compassion to the people around me, and valuing the relationships brought into my life. Ultimately, I hope that my legacy not only reflects the quality of my character, but also inspires others to follow suit
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m thrilled to be here and share my journey with you all. I started my modeling career while still in high school. It all began quite unexpectedly when my mother, who runs the brand Aloha Glamour, needed a brand ambassador. At that time, hiring a professional model was beyond our budget, so I stepped in. To our surprise, I discovered a natural flair for modeling.
My role in the industry goes beyond just showcasing clothes; I provide a fresh, youthful perspective that resonates with a younger audience, vital in today’s market. I specialize in bringing a sense of authenticity and relatability to the brands I work with, something that’s increasingly important in an era where consumers value genuine connections. This authenticity has helped me connect with audiences on a deeper level, making the brands I represent more approachable and appealing.
One of the main problems I solve for brands is bridging the gap between them and the younger demographic. My age and experience give me a unique insight into the tastes and preferences of younger consumers, which is invaluable for brands looking to tap into this market. Additionally, my natural ease in front of the camera and ability to quickly understand a brand’s vision helps in creating impactful visual content that resonates with the target audience. And, being self-taught, I bring a fresh, unorthodox approach to modeling, which often results in unique, eye-catching campaigns.
In just a year, I’ve had the privilege of being featured in top magazines like Allure.com and Blavity, and I’ve walked in prestigious events like New York Fashion Week (NYFW), Los Angeles Fashion Week (LAFW), and over 24 local fashion shows. What I’m most proud of, though, is my self-taught journey and the opportunity to travel and network with diverse people worldwide. It’s been an exhilarating experience that has broadened my horizons in unimaginable ways.
For potential clients, I want you to know that my brand represents youthful energy, authenticity, and a fresh perspective. I’m not just a model; I’m a storyteller, a brand ambassador, and a bridge to your audience.
And to anyone out there trying to make their mark, remember this quote that’s always resonated with me: “Fake it until you make it.” Believe in yourself, put your best foot forward, and the world will soon believe in you too.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think my family has helped me in more ways than they think. My family has made a huge impact on my reputation throughout the years. From posting my upcoming events, all the way to traveling across the world to support me. They have never wished negativity in my life, nor held me back from greatness. Regardless of how important my family has been to me, my mother has played the biggest role in my success. Without my mom I do not believe I would be the person I am today. She has believed in me when I did not believe in myself. She has encouraged me to try new things, even if it made my stomach go into knots just by thinking about it. Her knowledge is exemplary and her love is everlasting. I could not ask for a better person to share this journey with.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Set clear expectations and goals. Ensure that every team member understands their goals and responsibilities. Demonstrate the values and worth ethic you expect from your team, while also being mindful of stress levels by promoting healthy work-life integration. Remember that each team is unique, and it is essential to tailor your approach based on the specific dynamics and needs of their team members. Regularly assess and adapt your management style to create a positive and productive work environment.
