We recently connected with Laila Learning To Mom Podcast and have shared our conversation below.
Laila, appreciate you joining us today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
Honestly, Learning to Mom was born out of one of the loneliest seasons of my life. I had prenatal depression during my first pregnancy (something 1 in 7 women experience, but barely anyone talks about.) I was the first of my friends to get pregnant, so I didn’t have anyone to ask questions to or learn from. I felt really alone and totally unprepared.
After I had my first baby and walked through postpartum, I kept thinking, “I don’t want anyone else to feel this lost. I wanted to create the resource I wish I could’ve had.” I knew I wanted to create something that felt honest, encouraging, and actually helpful. A place where first-time moms could learn, feel seen, and know they’re not the only one figuring it out as they go. That’s what Learning to Mom is all about!
And related to why I felt that I could succeed. Well.. I just had a “feeling”. I knew it was NEEDED and I worked extremely hard. I learned, read books, listened to business podcasts, went to virtual summits- I learned all about the world of podcasting before I ever launched my first episode. In fact, I worked by butt off for 8 months before releasing a single episode.
I had faith that the Learning To Mom Podcast would be a success, but I definitely didn’t foresee the success happening as quickly as it has.
Laila, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Laila the host of the Learning To Mom Podcast where I ask experts all our first time mom questions so YOU can feel encouraged, empowered, but never overwhelmed!
The podcast is super unique because it grows WITH you in your motherhood journey. Season 1 is all about pregnancy, season 2 is about your baby’s first year of life. Season 3 is about your baby’s second year of life…. and so on and so forth!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Yes. The mission behind everything I do is to make first-time moms feel informed, empowered, and less overwhelmed.
I know what it’s like to walk through motherhood feeling isolated, unsure, and defeated. I started the Learning to Mom podcast because I wanted to be the resource I wish I had. I wanted to create a space where moms feel seen, supported, and encouraged.
At the end of the day, I just want moms to know they’re not doing it wrong… it’s just hard sometimes. And they’re not alone in that.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Get super clear on WHY you’re having a social media account. Is it to send people to your website? Is it to connect with your clients? Is it to become an influencer yourself?
First- get super clear on that.
Then – POST OFTEN.
At the end of the month, write down every post you made. If it was a carousel, if it was a reel, what the hook was (get specific) then track: comments, shares and follows!
This will tell you what content works best for you!
