Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lafayette Albury. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Lafayette thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
So this is crazy! My first client, actually found me on Google! She was searching for a good place to get a lash lift and brow tidy and she decided to take a chance since she didn’t see any other places offering the services! I was so proud because she actually had found me on her own, without any help from my advertising or social media post. This literally was the best sign because I wasn’t sure my business was getting the right amount of exposure ! Nonetheless, she LOVED her service and has returned multiple times! I remember literally crying happy tears and telling my boyfriend how happy I was that I took the risk. Literally the best decision I’ve ever made.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
Hi, I’m Lafayette and I own a luxury skin and beauty studio centered around wellness. Here’s a little bit of my backstory, I’ve always been involved in the beauty industry, I was a freelance makeup artist for about 5 years but really started to love skincare and the wellness industry as a whole! My grandmother loves all things beauty as well and when she got breast cancer for the second time, it really affected her and the whole family. She really went through a rough time and it was heartbreaking to watch. I decided to go to beauty school to become an Esthetician and really specialize in permanent makeup and all things wellness related because I knew how important it was from watching what my grandmother endured. I fell in love and knew that I wanted to create a business that promoted wellness and centered around helping women feel beautiful and most confident in their skin. I opened the Haus of Lafayette Aesthetics and I’ve been doing just that for the past year! All thanks to my grandmother and she loves what I do as well!
Haus of Lafayette Aesthetics offers a safe space for women to come and be pampered. All Haus clients experience an elevated luxury service while being able to unwind and really leave with results! Haus of Lafayette’s foundation is wellness based with a focus on making women feel confident in their skin, which is a necessity and we have built an amazing safe space! They are able to receive a quality service in a beautiful space while also being heard, understood and accepted regardless of what life throws at them.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
From the time that I entered my Full Specialist program, I made sure to have a presence on social media! It’s extremely vital to the exposure your business gets. It’s second nature for most people to turn to Instagram, Facebook and Google to get a feel for your business! Most of my clients have actually found my business through social media! Social media can definitely be beneficial but it’s also a lot of work. There are still some days I get overwhelmed but I always realize that consistency is key as well as quality content! Also remember to take breaks! This is crucial.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Owning a business is hard, I think all business owners can agree! I learned all that I could about starting a business and making sure all my systems were in place but all the information can definitely become overwhelming. Sometimes, I still feel like I don’t know everything I need to. There are definitely times when I’ve had to sacrifice spending time with friends and family and even my availability. I’ve worked many late nights, even on my days off. I think the one thing owning a business has really taught me is that you need to have balance. I’ve been burnt out but realized that it just means I need to take a break, not give up.
