We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lady P. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lady below.
Lady, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful projects I’ve worked on has been motivation of success in a woman’s perspective, as well as raising awareness for domestic violence. Nothing in my life has been handed to me, I’ve had to work for everything I have and want it easier for others. My music, our movement, I am Lady P, but first Sharis Allen, I went through many wars but it’s made me stronger and a fighter, I won’t give up. Music speaks to more people than most the time words, so between music and raising awareness for something I’ve personally gone through, I can tell you it’s more than meaningful it’s real.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Lady P, I’m in the industry I’m in because of pain, suffering, heart ache, feeling alone, I want to bring happiness from the tears, I’m working passed trauma through what I do, in hopes it’ll help others too. I want to provide safety not only in music but my domestic violence group, I want you to be heard, seen, and noticed, I personally know what it’s like to want those . I think what sets me apart is actually living the music I write and group I’ve created, and being apart of a life that wasn’t given anything to start, I started from the bottom and have pushed and fought to make it through, you see I’m not like everybody else with a potential fake story, what I write and share is real, it’s raw. What I’m most proud of is my success, I want to reach and help everyone I can, I’m proud of what we’ve done already in the community with #SPEAK – my DV group and what we will continuously do/ provide. Our main goal is saving everyone we can !
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I believe society can be more welcoming, and accepting of the fact that #SPEAK, though we are just one group our meaning and why we’re a group is a real life traumatic situation. Domestic violence is real, it’s out there, to often people don’t speak. I think society should be more open to helping recover from DV, I think society should either help generate groups and allow funding for these groups, or provide further assistance for dv survivors or people trying to exit a DV situation.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In my life time, I’ve experienced abuse in all forms, I’ve had it from the worst you could imagine to mild signs here and there, to where I couldn’t notice it was actual abuse until it was full blown abuse. My resilience comes from getting out, my resilience comes from not wanting anyone else to go through it as long as I did, knowing they have an opportunity to get out, I want people to not ever feel stuck like I was. I want people MALE or FEMALE to know they are not alone, not stuck, and not forgotten! I never want someone to not have the resources like I didn’t, that was what made it so hard, not having any information or resources, so that’s where my resilience comes from.
