We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lady Kimberly Jackson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Lady Kimberly thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I learned how to sing at a very young age when I was 3 years old growing up in the church. As I grew older I began to train vocally by participating in elementary, middle, high school and college choirs where they taught me the techniques that should be used when singing such as; breath control, pronunciation and etc. I believe that I could have not allowed negativity to effect me being more confident in myself. Learning how to perfect my craft was most essential for me. The obstacles that stood in the way was myself because I did’nt feel like my voice was not good enough but then I had to realize that even though my voice may not be for everyone that shouldnt stop me from my purpose in this life that God is calling for.
Lady Kimberly, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Kimberly Jackson aka Lady Kimberly Jackson I was born and raised in Houston,Texas. Even though I have been singing since the age of 3 for the last 33 years now I started my journey in the industry in November 15, 2021 with my debut single entitled Higher in which plays all throughout the US including Alaska, and also it has played in the Caribbeans, Lagos, Nigeria, the UK just to name a few. I also just finished my debut acting career in my first stage play called Unfinished Business which was directed by Houston’s own Ms. Annie Johnson in where I played the character of Flora which will air nationwide really soon on Roku TV, Tubi, Amazon Video etc. Also, I made my first national TV appearance on the Dr. Bobby Jones presents show which aired on Impact TV on May 22nd of 2022. I believe what sets me apart from others is my passion for Gospel music has a whole and I put my all into every moment and opportunity that’s given to me like its my last time and I leave it on stage. I am most proud of my work ethic, my passion, and how I stopped thinking that I was not good enough and most importantly that no matter what obstacle I ever had to face I never gave up.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I believe a lot of non-creatives will have a hard time understanding I thought so small of myself and how I lacked confidence. Sometimes it can get discouraging because you expect your peers to show there support in your work and your craft and thats not always the case so it causes us to feel less of ourselves and to question am I really supposed to be doing all of this, but then you have to choose to either believe the outside noise or change the narrative. So, in my case I decided to change the narrative and not allow the negative opinions stop me from the calling on my life and not let people define who I am.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I really wish that when I was younger I had knowledge of the school of performing arts.
