We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lady Ace a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Lady, thanks for joining us today. Alright – so having the idea is one thing, but going from idea to execution is where countless people drop the ball. Can you talk to us about your journey from idea to execution?

Firstly, I always had a creative side but I NEVER took graphic design serious. I used to make my own flyers or do little graphics for people for cheap in high school. 2022 is when I really decided that it’s time to perfect my craft! Once I became a felon, I realized why not make money from the comfort of my own home than struggle to find a job and work on somebody else timing. Reality hit me quick! As soon as I bonded out I was like the first thing I’m doing is taking this graphic design course with Kennedy ( @morphographics ) and locking all the way in! I already had a macbook I just needed to perfect my skill. After my course, I caught on so easily I just kept taking courses with her! I already was pretty well-known I just needed to market and advertise my new brand! Passion projects is my main source of gaining new clients.

Lady, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My name is Lady Ace and I am a 24 year old graphic designer. I got into this industry when I was in high school. I was a party promoter who ran a female promotion team known as Pink Mafia. So, when I didn’t have a graphic designer with quick turnaround time! I would literally find pdf files in online of event flyers and edit them. That’s where I first had a taste of graphic design. I didn’t have a love for the craft at the time it was more of I gotta do what needs to be done and technically I was just editing someone else’s design I just knew how to maneuver on photoshop. Presently, my service that I’m most advanced in are websites! After taking a website workshop, my very first passion project got over 10,000 views. I feel like I’m more creative with designing websites over EFlyers and most designers can finish a flyer quicker. However, I create websites, eflyers, business cards, thank you cards, and more. I only provide digital designs I do not print. You can not have a successful business without having a brand aesthetic! I bring your brand to life! Your marketing and aesthetic will bring in revenue. If your business page and website doesn’t look professional no one will want to shop with you unless you sell a lifestyle and dream! I’m most proud of seeing my craft enhance and seeing how many people trust me with their graphics even though everyday is still a learning process for me.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?

My best source of bringing in new clients is doing passion projects! I did a website layout for lightskinkeisha clothing brand “original baddie club” and posted it onto Instagram and tiktok. Reels are your Bestfriend for anybody looking to make content or bring in new clients because you are reaching more than just your followers and the same method goes for tiktok! Even when I’m scrolling looking at other business owners reels I will leave a comment complimenting them as well as advertising that I’m a graphic designer.

How did you build your audience on social media?

Building your audience on social media takes time, however you HAVE to be consistent! Firstly, you have to know your target audience because if you think everyone is your target audience that’s one reason your business isn’t making any money. That’s like if I sell a rat tail comb as a product and saying I can sell this comb to anybody. The odds are against me if I’m trying to sell that product to someone that doesn’t have any hair , has a hair condition, or has coarse hair. Once you figure out exactly who to target and how to target them you will see your business growing.
