We were lucky to catch up with LaDeirdre Forehand recently and have shared our conversation below.

LaDeirdre , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Alright – so having the idea is one thing, but going from idea to execution is where countless people drop the ball. Can you talk to us about your journey from idea to execution?

I am a merchant seawoman. But I always knew that I wanted to be an Author. I have been around kids all my life so, writing my first children’s book was a breeze. I prayed and ask God for clarity and he answer my prayers when I was out at sea in Honolulu, Hawaii on my very first ship assignment. I had a pen and a notebook and I wrote everything down that God had given me. Then 8mos later when I finally came home of the ship, I brought my vision to life. I connected myself with the right people and used all my resources. You have to have a plan. Thats the most important part of entrepreneurship.

LaDeirdre , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I have a very great relationship with my granny and she inspired me so much that I wanted to do something in her honor. I created my brand around her and our relationship. I grew up in her house and we still have that unbreakable bond. So my dedication to being the best author definitely made my path simpler because I already had my storyline, I lived it. My mini series is actually based on true events that happened between my granny and I. I had to share this with the world. We have fans on social media they love granny. My papa is in a few of our videos and he will also be apart of a few upcoming books. Having active grandparents throughout my childhood and now as an adult helped mold me into the woman I am today. I am forever grateful.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

I built my audience on social media through my videos and post about my granny and I. People love to see authentic content. You can see the love and genuine connection I have with my granny as well as my papa. I feel like it’s only right that I honor them because they loved and cared for me all of my life. They deserve that same love and care from me. Granny is always camera ready and she loves to dance. Our fans love that about her. She’s very outspoken and she’s not afraid to speak out about anything. My advice would be to keep posting everyday and set the tone for your content and everything else will fall into place.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

The most rewarding aspect of being a creative writer is to be able to give my audience something that they can relate to. I love seeing my young readers, reading my books and sending me short videos of them reading. It’s so rewarding to know that children love reading my books. I think my storyline is so relatable to my audience. So being able to be inspired while coming up with each story and mapping out my outline for the illustration makes it more enjoyable for me.
