We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lacy Clark a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lacy , thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
In 2014, I made the pivotal decision to step away from my career in professional education to become a stay-at-home mother and yoga instructor. Teaching has always come naturally to me, and my passion for educating children led me to pursue a Master’s degree in Education without hesitation. After the birth of my first child, I felt a strong desire to stay home and raise her. However, I also recognized the importance of maintaining a sense of personal fulfillment. This balance led me to begin teaching yoga—an activity I had loved since my teenage years—in the evenings, allowing me to be fully present with my daughter during the day.
My early success teaching at a local studio inspired the creation of my business, Versatile Yoga. As my family relocated frequently for work, I had the opportunity to teach at a variety of yoga studios across different communities, enriching both my experience and teaching style. During this time, I welcomed two more daughters and even assisted in opening a new yoga studio just before the onset of the pandemic.
Evening instruction continued to be an ideal fit, and I eventually began homeschooling my children during the day. This allowed me to integrate my formal education with my evolving lifestyle, combining professional expertise with personal passion. Today, I homeschool my children, teach yoga and small group reading at a local Microschool, lead evening yoga classes, and provide proof of progress letters for fellow homeschooling families in my community. I am grateful and proud to live a life that harmoniously blends family, education, and passion.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a devoted mother of three beautiful girls with a passion for homeschooling, yoga, and exploring the outdoors. With over 15 years of yoga practice, I strive to bring warmth, experience, and a love for movement to every class.
I hold a 500-hour Yoga Alliance certification in Hatha yoga, along with specialized training in Warriors at Ease Level 1, beginner Aerial Yoga, prenatal and postnatal yoga, Meditation, and Mindfulness. As a versatile instructor, I believe in the power of a great yoga playlist and am dedicated to helping students discover the practice that resonates with them most.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I have demonstrated resilience time and again by rebuilding my yoga practice, business, and client base each time my family relocated for work. Since 2014, we have lived in more than five states, and I have had the opportunity to teach in a wide range of yoga studios across the country. Despite the frequent moves, I am proud to have consistently upheld both my professional brand and my family life, maintaining balance and commitment in both areas.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Beyond specialized training and knowledge, the key to thriving as both a yoga instructor and a homeschooling mother is authenticity. Embracing and expressing your true self—unapologetically—is essential. In yoga, being genuine helps attract and retain clients who truly align with your energy and approach. Likewise, when you bring your authentic self into your homeschooling, you build deeper, more personal connections with your children, enriching their learning experience in meaningful ways.
