Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lacie Walters. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lacie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I have always worked from home while raising our 3 children. i am creative and enjoyed designing, decorating, being crafty and making things pretty. i made cookies with buttercream for our children over the years and as they got older it was more for the holidays. this past summer i decided to try royal icing cookies and absolutely loved the creative and design part of it. i started baking and decorating them just giving them to family and friends to try. the feedback was great! the more i decorated the more i liked the idea of a cookie for a card and that is how i came of with the name, Beyond a Cookie. i decided to sign up for our local farmers market and the interaction with the customers was amazing. the way we were able to talk about life and the inspirational messages on the cookies was all it took. after that market i got the courage to go to a local business that offers craft classes once a month after hours. i approached her with the idea of a pop up stand for her events. she liked the inspirational cookies and agreed. putting yourself out there in your small hometown is a lot but i am so glad i did. since that one pop up event i have been setting up at all of her classes, going to other local markets and events, meeting people and creating a client base for custom orders.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
my name is lacie walters, my husband Gabe and i have been married 27 years and we have 3 children and 1 grandson. i started making cookies for my children and once they were grown decided to try something different. i love to paint my cookies and when i take them to markets or events each cookie is different with an inspirational message written on them. the idea is a cookie instead of a card. i am most proud of the positive message that i can provide to others with a simple cookie. you never know what someone is going through and when someone walks to my booth picks up a cookies with a message on it and says “i needed that today”, that is why i love what i do. the hardest part is juggling everyday work and life and keeping up with orders and events.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
the goal or mission is to spread positivity, love and most important to let someone know that they are heard and are important.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
the most rewarding part of what i do is the customer interaction. i love being able to laugh and smile while talking about something written on a simple cookie
