We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lacie Dillon . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lacie below.
Hi Lacie , thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The story behind this mission, wow, well it started simply to be honest. I was in a corporate role, in general surgery. Had it “made” by all accounts, but there was something brewing inside of me that led me to the mission that I am on.
In the medical field, I have seen the yearning for patients, especially women, to find an outlet where they can blossom into their best selves. Far too many times, women put themselves in the backseat and focus on their children, partner, career, etc., many times forsaking themselves in the process.
When I ventured into Medical Aesthetics, it started as an avenue to provide services to close friends and family, but what I quickly discovered is that the passion for empowering individuals by unlocking their confidence quickly became my mission.
The fulfillment that is gained by seeing individuals gain confidence in themselves again is invigorating, a high that is nearly unexplainable.
I have had so many people ask me if I miss the challenge of “saving lives” in general surgery, and I do to an extent, but what is more exciting to me is saving a life via another avenue. Helping someone find their best self, their confidence, and their permission to be their best self, that is my mission.
Lacie , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have always had a competitive spirit, a drive if you want to call it that, my goal was and is to be the best I can be at whatever it is that I am doing. I have also always been a “fixer”, trying to help solve any problem that came across my path. When those two traits were mashed together, being in the medical field was the natural hypothesis for me (I was always intrigued with the medical field, too).
When I was in Phyician Assistant school, my mom was fighting for her life battling cancer, another driver for me in the medical field. I wanted to solve that problem, even though it was not going to be solved for my mom. Now, how did I make the full circle into medical aesthetics, well that also came from my mom. No matter what the cards held for her, she was always put together and always looking her best. This is where the spark was lit for me, I could see the confidence in my mom when she was prepared for the day, even in the midst of the most difficult battle life could have given her, she was always confident when she was looking her best. It was almost as if she had superpowers when she put on her makeup!
So, how does this translate to where I am now, well as I mentioned earlier, my passion is empowering others. Which is what led me to medical aesthetics.
What do we do at Let’s Face It Aesthetics and Med Spa? Well, we provide a safe harbor for our clients first and foremost. A place where they can be themselves, no matter what that looks like. We also provide options and outlets that allow our clients to renew themselves. Whether that is Botox for wrinkles and fine lines, dermal fillers for their lips, cheeks, chin, etc., laser treatments, hair abatement treatments, medical grade skincare products, or a couch to sit on and talk while getting a revitalizing IV treatment. These are some of the products and services we provide.
What sets us apart is our desire to truly help our clients, to listen to their desires and wishes and then determine what options we can provide to aide them on that journey. What makes us different in that, well we believe it is our honesty first and foremost, but also that we are realistic with message to our clients. We are not interested in taking someone’s money for the sake of taking money. That is one of our core messages, we are on this journey to build a community of clients, not promise unattainable results.
When coupling our goal above with a drive to be the best in our craft, and it is a meticulous craft, that is where we find the magic. Our brand is built on honesty, transparency, and the maniacal pursuit of high-quality results for our clients.
At Let’s Face It, we are continually striving for to be our best, that is what our brand is built on.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
In the med spa world, I didn’t know the amount of capital needed to truly launch a med spa business. There is no book that tells you these things.
I ventured into the business by organically funding from the start. I was not in a position to invest hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars into launching my business.
I was fortunate enough to be in a position financially that allowed me to open the business minimalistic ally, and self-fund the growth. I was also fortunate to have an amazing support system that believed in my dream even when I sometimes didn’t.
I say all of this to say that where there is a will there really is a way. Is it ideal to raise up a business such as a med spa by the bootstraps, well no, I would have loved to have had a million or two spare dollars laying around to launch my business, but that was not in the cards.
What it taught me is resilience, perseverance, budgeting and the power of faith!
I grew my business hand to mouth every day, hoping that I could make enough each day to pay for the next.
The message from this is that anything is possible, again, where there is a will there is always a way.
I think the most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been honesty and transparency, coupled with great word of mouth marketing.
As I mentioned earlier, one of the cornerstones of my business model is honesty and transparency. In an elective service business like medical aesthetics, customers have options. Those options span a wide range, just because it is cheap doesn’t mean it is good and if it is good, it is likely not cheap.
What my strategy has been from day one is to be real, maybe even brutally real at times, but real, nonetheless.
What I have found in the aesthetics industry is that clients generally appreciate that breathe of fresh air and honesty. Initially I was worried that being so real and raw with customers might be detrimental, but quite the opposite has been true. I find that more and more clients come to Let’s Face It because of the honest approach and genuine desire we have to deliver results for our clients.
