Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lacey Funderburk. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lacey, appreciate you joining us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
Earning a full time living from Sullivan’s Board Co. was not as slow of a profession as I would have thought. I never went back to another job after Covid due to the success of our business! Although, it wasn’t like that from day one, I could tell it would be from the steady amount of order I was getting weekly!

Lacey, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Lacey is a South Carolina native, born north of Charleston in Florence. Growing up in a traditional southern home she spent hours in the kitchen with her mother, aunts and cousins. Learning many South Carolina staples such as, shrimp and grits, stewed tomatoes and rice, canning, succotash and many more classic recipes. In 2016, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Culinary Arts Management with honors. After graduation, she worked in all front of house positions at several well known Charleston restaurants and under the notable Sean Brock. During her time in culinary school she traveled to France and Spain. It was there she fell in love with the art of charcuterie. Since then she has enjoyed serving, eating and preparing it.
Sullivan’s Board Co. is a product of free time during quarantine that has blossomed into a business, bringing the fine treat of charcuterie straight to your door. The name is inspired by our lovely little Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Sullivan (Sully for short) who is also named after Charleston’s own, Sullivan’s Island. Our promise is to deliver quality charcuterie boards with fresh local ingredients, fine meats and cheeses, sophisticated styling, and unbeatable convenience.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I was 19, I owned a ladies clothing boutique in Florence, SC, for five years. I was very young. I started to feel like I wanted to explore the next chapter of my life which was when I decided to sell the boutique and move to Charleston. Once I moved to Charleston, I decided to enroll in culinary school. During school and after I worked in too Charleston restaurants with some of the best in the industry. It was a fantastic experience. March 16, 2020, was when my restaurant was forced to close. During this time was when I dreamed up SBC. It became a “pivot” that really worked out for myself and my family!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building my audience on social media was about consistency and engagement. I just keep posting even when I don’t feel like it! The more I post the better I get with the camera and marketing. I’ve also found it’s a great way to network and get to know your clients and colleagues!
