We were lucky to catch up with Lacey Boucher recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lacey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
My journey led me to being an elementary school teacher. In 2022, I decided to take a step down from full time teaching to pursue my dream of being a children’s book author. In doing so, it has allowed me the freedom to be creative and be available for new paths as opportunities appear and unfold. The risk of not having the comfort of a paying job is something that brings in fears but the courage and passion I have for what my future holds has more power than those limiting beliefs once did. I believe in the inspiration I bring to others and I know what I create and what I offer will expand into so much more!
Lacey, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a children’s book author and an inspirational family leader. I offer a space for kids to step into their light, build their confidence, and freely express their imagination through the magic of storytelling, connection, and mindfulness. My children’s books that I have self-published are part of a series I created titled; Goodnight World. There are 5 books available (the series will be complete with 7) and each book focuses on a different environmental topic for kids to get curious about, become aware of, and to appreciate what our Earth offers. My YouTube channel has a playlist containing ‘Mindful Moments’ that dive into the power of our imagination and connection to the World around us through affirmations, guided meditations, poems, and breathwork for kids. I want to inspire families to settle in to the present moment and see all that can flourish within. I also offer workshops and programs for kids where I collaborate with other like-minded small businesses. Recently, I finished a 5 week after school program called ‘Daydreamers’ where we connected with our self, community, and to nature through various activities. As a mom and a teacher, I believe my experiences inspire me to create the content that I offer and I am so proud of everything that has brought me to this moment.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission that drives my creative journey and is continuing to be my authentic self. So often we can look to others and compare ourselves which can lead to self-doubt or a feeling of ‘not doing it right’ and when we fully believe in what we bring to the table, we can move past the comparison and into the power of our own unique self! I love to follow a long with others journeys and get inspired in different ways but the best way for each and every one of us is when we are in our authenticity.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn was that I had to look for something outside of myself. When the fire was lit inside of me to self-publish my children’s books, it was the realization that I can do this on my own and it wasn’t that I didn’t know something….it was that I didn’t know it YET! I was sitting around waiting for things to come into my life without taking the action forward. I thought I needed something when I had it within me all along to go after my dreams and figure it out along the way. My drive and motivation increased once I left the victim mentality behind and stepped into courage. There has been so much unfolding as I’ve embarked on this self-publishing journey that would not be a reality if I stayed in the belief of waiting for someone to find me. Now that I am putting myself out there, more and more opportunities are showing up and I am open to all the possibilities!
