We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lacey Binns a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lacey, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project is the one that is continuous and ongoing: myself. I’m a continual work-in-progress and that is the most exciting project to me. I have come further already than I would have expected, but also still feel that I have a long way to go ahead with endless possibilities. I recently had a mentoring discussion with someone who let me know they are not sure what they see as the next step in their career and as a result they’re not sure what they should be doing or working on. My response is that they should be working on themselves. Whether you know where you want to go or not, you can always improve your mind; learning a new skill could be professional or personal (and sometimes one begets the other). Having that mentality of focusing on yourself can lend itself to finding what you want to do next or in what direction you want to head.

Lacey, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started Life Without Louboutins in 2018 as a space for sharing ideas and fashion for women who want to cultivate a stylish life on a budget. I love playing with personal style (both for clothing and home) and encouraging others to do the same. Every woman deserves to feel confident and beautiful in her own skin!
In my 9 to 5, I am a project manager overseeing a team of other project owners in a corporate setting. I love what I do and that it enables me to have a fulfilling blog space where I can be creative and impactful.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Authenticity and trust are at the core of how I manage a team. I have to bring my authentic self to the team so that they feel safe to do the same. I do that by showing up every day as myself; laughing and joking while also working hard to fulfill the needs of the business. I walk the walk in full sight. My team hears and sees me as that same person one on one or in a group. That builds trust and builds it quickly. As a result, they feel safe to do the same.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
This is not a book that is out yet, but coming in April 2026: “Start With Yourself” by Emma Grede. She has a phenomenal podcast that is centered around entrepreneurship and life lessons from some of the most incredible people in the world. Every episode of the podcast is inspiring thanks to both Emma and her selection of guests, so I am anxiously looking forward to reading her book.
