We were lucky to catch up with LaBrina Gill Weeden recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, LaBrina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
My very first client came from Cosmetology School. Being new to the salon floor, I was extremely nervous but by the end of the appointment we were very comfortable with one another. I am happy to this day, 9 years later, I’m blessed to still service her.
LaBrina, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is LaBrina Gill Weeden and I’m a native of Independence, La. I’m married to my husband Anthony and we have three handsome boys Braylen, Cameron and Dexton. I graduated from Compass Career College in Hammond, La, passed the State Board of Cosmetology and became a licensed cosmetologist in 2014. I opened Younique Beauty Salon LLC in October of 2016. I am a Certified Bellami Stylist and Olaplex Stylist.
I enjoy attending classes and hair shows to keep up with the latest trends. In my free time I enjoy traveling, spending quality time with family, and trying new restaurants.I also enjoys bing watching TV and learning new things.
I provide my clients with a relaxing atmosphere and recognize that most women are practicing self care when they come into my salon. I am passionate about finding ways to better service my clients. I love creating new styles and helping people feel confident about their hair. Opening Younique Beauty Salon has given me a way to provide hair services to the community while fulfilling the desire to own and operate my own salon. I provide natural hair care, silk presses, luxury extension (tape ins/i tip micro links), braids, relaxers, loc services, waxing, and so much more.
Being a business owner has been rewarding and it takes a lot of hard work and dedication. I’m blessed to have family that supports me each and every day and I work extremely hard to grow my business. My father, Tony Seals (Owner of Short Cut Barber Shop) has consistently been there to teach and guide me over the years in all areas of my life. He’s a major reason why I’m successful today and I’m so grateful for him.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
I have social media accounts for my business, but I do not rely on them heavily to book clients. Word of mouth has been the best source of getting new clients. I work really hard to provide each client with great customer service. It’s important that I listen to my clients and provide them with honest feedback. Being reliable is another great quality that I strive to have. My clients know they can count on me to make sure their hair looks beautiful.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
My clients enjoy being able to come to their appointment and have one on one time with me. I’m very mindful of how I schedule appointments. I don’t overlap appointments and this allows the clients to have privacy during their appointment. They feel comfortable talking to me about their hair without having others listen to their conversation. I respect my clients and I provide them with exceptional service. This has allowed my business to grow over the years. I’m very proud of my growth as a stylist and each day I strive to be a better so I can continue to make my clients happy!
