We recently connected with La Shundra Worthy and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, La Shundra thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I was able to find my craft through trial and error. I’ve always considered myself to be a creative and I’ve dabbled in various areas to express my creative side so it was primarily a matter of finding my passion.
Initially, I started Artisan Crafts by Alicia with the intention of solely making t-shirts and tumblers, however once I realized that the market for those items was slightly oversaturated, I had to think strategically and quickly to figure out what products I could create which were useful to others and enjoyable for me to create. Writing and organizing are two things of the utmost importance to me so I decided to combine the two and began creating planners/calendars.
To begin, I researched various software programs and once I decided on one to work with, I practiced day and night to master the program. I also invested in a few supplemental classes to assist with techniques, best practices, and applying the tools in real life.
After a few months of consistent practice, critique, purchasing equipment, along with trial and error, I’d finally mastered custom planners, appointment books spiritual journals, etc.
Patience was absolutely a virtue because I wanted my product to be reflective of the time, care and thoughtfulness that I’d put into it. I wouldn’t do anything differently, as t-shirts and planners were my starting point and motivation to bring my creativity to life and out of my mind.

La Shundra, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am La Shundra Worthy, Atlanta native, creative, daughter, sister and friend. I’ve always enjoyed writing and creating things which I found to be useful and inspirational to others.
During Covid, I found that I had more time focus and curate my creativity and actually develop my craft, therefore, I decided to delve more into that facet of my being and from there Artisan Crafts By Alicia was born.
In addition to T-shirts and tumblers, I also make custom yearly planners, notebooks, appointment books, cake toppers, door mats, custom pet calendars, etc. My business has expended tremendously over the past couple years and I’m proud to say that I am a certified vendor for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Being resilient and steadfast were essential in order to reach this level of success.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is seeing your vision come to fruition and reading raving reviews on how much my planners have helped so many of my customers organize and plan, plus the excitement of them seeing their name on the cover is an additional ego boost.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Earlier on, I wish I’d known about the various Facebook groups which provide support, encouragement and advice to creatives. It helps to know that others have been at the same point and they’re able to serve as a sounding board and voice of reason to you to keep going.
