Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to La’ Shae Alexander. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
La’ Shae , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’ve love to hear an interesting investment story – what was one of the best or worst investments you’ve made? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
I would say my best investment thus far has been in myself. In the words of Uncle Snoop Dogg: “I would like to thank myself.” I don’t think we give enough credit to the self-motivation and self-love it takes to fight against all odds. The world is hard on self-esteem—so much so that we are often expected to prioritize others and external things in pursuit of a reward. However, it is rarely encouraged to first seek and believe in ourselves.
I have learned to look inward first and allow that to shape the results I value. I didn’t let things like a 9-to-5 job define me or the fact that I didn’t know something hold me back. I had a heart and mind filled with curiosity, and I let that lead me.
Today, this approach is called a soft skill (I learned that on LinkedIn), but what I have realized is that the work I have put into myself reflects in the work I do.
I have learned to lead by making myself my first investment—building from within and modeling that self-investment in everything I do outwardly.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For those who do not know me, I am a native of California, an HBCU graduate (Dillard University), and a mother. I have built an 12-year career in real estate management that has evolved into my current role as a Commercial Real Estate Broker. Additionally, I have had the privilege of working with an amazing team of mentors, creatives, and thought leaders, for the duration of my career. I have had the help of so many leaders along the way that we’d be here all day talking about the ways in which people helped me get to where I am. It has been an incredible experience to share my journey.
As of now, I am most proud of overcoming fear, a theme I have discussed in several of my past articles. The battle has not been easy, and much of my life has been spent afraid of the unknown. Recently, I had the opportunity to reflect on this while listening to speaker Robert Paylor discuss the things that paralyze us. He posed the question, “What paralyzes you?” I felt proud to have realized that being paralyzed by fear is now a thing of the past for me.
Reflecting on who I am today, I want my clients to know that I understand the moments of fear we all face. Working in real estate means everything to me, and I recognize that we are in a climate that feels unpredictable. However, I want to assure my clients that I have their best interests at heart. I am confident in my experience, but what truly strengthens my confidence is the knowledge that I work alongside some of the most brilliant minds I have ever met. There is a reason that commercial real estate brokerage is a specialty. We have the desire to not only build strong relationships but for myself I bring all of who I am and resources to the hands of my clients. This assures they will be prioritized. What my clients need matters!
I want my followers to know that when they see me—especially women and women of color who come from humble beginnings—they should believe that they, too, can achieve anything. I want them to know that my brand, ShaeDaily, represents life, triumph, community, and results.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
An unexpected nugget of wisdom for professionals is LinkedIn. I have been on LinkedIn since high school, pre-2010 and over the years, I have built a network of over 10,000 connections. I am incredibly grateful to have a platform that supports my career and business growth. It has become a space where I can learn, educate myself, advance my career, and socialize with like-minded individuals.
LinkedIn is where I found the opportunity to be a part of IVY University. It’s also how I attracted the right hiring managers, recruiters, and individuals who gave me a chance in commercial real estate. So far, it has positioned me to step into my most renowned role yet.
Today, the opportunities for clientele via LinkedIn as a broker are limitless. My ability to connect with developers, investors, landlords, and potential tenants is directly at my fingertips. Sales have come a long way, thanks to technology and media platforms that connect us in ways we couldn’t have imagined before.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned in my journey is the power of mentorship and teaching. Entering commercial real estate wasn’t something I accomplished on my own—I had incredible support along the way. Leaders like Jim Osborn, Shannon Rinker, and Erika Senegal saw potential in me and invested their time, knowledge, and encouragement. Their willingness to pour into me not only shaped who I am but also taught me the value of lifting others as you climb.
For managing a team, I focus on creating an environment where people feel seen and supported. It’s about recognizing their individual strengths and investing in their growth, whether that’s through one-on-one guidance, opportunities for professional development, or simply meaningful conversations. When you teach and nurture your team, their success becomes a reflection of your leadership.
Maintaining high morale also comes from empathy. As a mother, I’ve learned the importance of balancing accountability with understanding. People work best when they feel valued not just for their output but for who they are. By fostering a culture of trust, encouragement, and shared growth, you’ll find that a motivated, inspired team will always rise to the occasion.
This response ties your leadership advice to your personal experience and values while emphasizing the importance of mentorship and empathy.
