We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful La-Niece. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with La-Niece below.
La-Niece, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you have an agent or someone (or a team) that helps you secure opportunities and compensation for your creative work? How did you meet you, why did you decide to work with them, why do you think they decided to work with you?
Yes, I work with different agencies for different types of work but I do not solely rely on them to find me work. I pitch/apply to a lot for myself. However, agencies help secure opportunities and compensation for my creative work. Agencies or representatives can help to navigate the industry, find opportunities that match your skills and interests, negotiate contracts and compensation, and provide guidance and support throughout your career. Most agencies I have learned about while networking and being approached by a representative after they have heard about or seen my work. However, it is important to carefully research and vet potential agents or representatives to make sure they have a good track record and are a good fit for you.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Hi, My name is La-Niece and I am a creative artist who wears many hats. I am an actress, host, producer and editor. I am mostly known for my work as an actress, post production editor, published celebrity press photographer and videographer. Some of the services I offer are: full creative product photography and videography. I also offer a variety of post production services like TV/film, ad & digital content editing, motion graphics, voice over and music placement. I am proud of my accomplishments as a creative artist and that I continue to grow and gain more experience in different areas of TV, film and digital content. Knowing what my client or boss wants and understanding my why is important and usually is applied to all of my work. Also Paying attention to detail, recognizing, and resolving problems with minimal supervision.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Working in the TV and Film business most projects you work on as an independent contractor if you are not in a union. There can be a lot of ups and downs with finding work or booking projects and you have to learn quickly how to pivot. If you have other talents it is important to explore those and see how you can offer your knowledge and experience as a service or you can start a business selling merchandise or digital products. The biggest and most recent pivot I’ve witnessed and have been part of was in 2020 when everyone was staying home more and social distancing due to the pandemic. There weren’t any celebrity red carpets or events for me to cover and projects or events involving crowds were canceled. I had to quickly pivot to working from home and started editing social media content, films and ads. It was challenging but it pushed me to expand my talents and explore more creative ideas.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
NFTs, AR/VR and AI! Yes, yes and yes. Overall, NFTs have the potential to significantly impact the post-production process in the TV and film industries, offering new ways to manage ownership, generate revenue, preserve assets, and collaborate on projects. NFTs can be used to securely track and verify the ownership of digital assets, such as special effects, music, and other post-production elements. Although I have not yet used NFTs for my work, I have learned a lot about it and I’m sure I will be using it in the very near future. So far, I have used AR and AI on some of my most recent work. I think if you are an artist you should learn all you can about new tech tools and see how it can help with expanding your talent, brand and services.
