Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to L.A. Juan Dansby. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
L.A. Juan , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
NATIVES is based on the reestablishment of the Black Culture and community in America. The fact that most blacks in America cannot and have not been able to connect their roots back to Africa creates a whole new community of people.
Being a second generation Angeleno, there is a pride in having seen some of the other beautiful parts of the country and still being proud to be born and raised in Los Angeles. Being a NATIVE of South Central Los Angeles as well of America the pride of Culture and Art must be pushed forward!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Greetings, I’m L.A. Juan , Creative Director and owner of NATIVES. An upcoming Luxury Streetwear brand that highlights the culture and as well as pushes quality.
NATIVES is a brand that looks to connect with its clientele by meeting them where they are, and growing with them; by that we mean allowing our clientele to grow within the brand.
The company has allowed itself to diversify by getting into women’s collections as well. Allowing for the expansion of education in the apparel industry as well as creating a fashion space for women in which they are safely celebrated as well as seen as inspiration.
NATIVES was built to serve as a platform for highlighting culture, art and life through the lens of an Angeleno.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Your Next 5 Moves by Patrick Bett-David. Reading this book has tremendously changed my mental process and how I think not only about business but about my own life as well.
Helping me to understand how to plan for the future. How to forecast, and how to be aware of what you’re up against.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Be Authentic Be Organic.
Right now, as a new brand in the apparel industry I look at everyday as a beautiful opportunity to grow, learn, execute, or create. Everyday I am thankful for the opportunity to create and learn. I take the time to educate myself on other successful businesses and brands and what techniques they may have used to stay relevant and in business for years. Stealing knowledge and wisdom in the words of the GREAT Nip Hussle.
