We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful L.A. Geronimo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with L.A. below.
L.A., thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
As a professional photographer, I had been grinding and hustling, but I was also cooking for myself every day, to be healthier both physically and financially (because eating out every day isn’t ideal). One day, I was looking at some of the creative categories on Twitch and I decided to try to make content based on making food for myself, but also trying to teach people how to cook and do it simply and well. I had felt that cooking is starting to be a lost art on many people who just go out or eat out every day, especially gamers, so I sought out to teach people how to make simple and delicious food in a format without jumps or cuts so that people can see the entire process.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Before I was a Twitch Broadcaster I was a photographer, and I did mostly portraits, cosplay, and wedding photography. At my core I feel like creating content has always been a thing I wanted to do. I was making a bunch of food and I thought to myself maybe I could help people in some way, by teaching them how to cook.
Whenever someone comes up to me and tells me they made something I made and they really loved it, it really warms my heart. And it’s amazing to watch people grow and learn more past what we’ve done together.
How did you build your audience on social media?
As far as growing my audience, I spent a lot of time as part of the audience watching my peers and being part of their communities. I wholeheartedly want to support my fellow content creators because I know we’re all doing the best we can. I see so many amazing people doing amazing things. There’s one quote that has always stuck to me and that’s “A rising tide lifts all boats.”, and I did my best to be part of the tide.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I feel like my life is full of pivots, starting from back in college when I moved away from pursuing a nursing degree and focused on being a sushi chef because I loved food. From there, I changed careers again, picking up a camera and pursuing photography full time, then from photography to content creation. I like to believe that change is the only constant, and you have to be able to move and flow with all the changes in life, not only externally but internally as well. One thing is for sure: I never really get bored.
