We recently connected with Kyrus Keenan Westcott and have shared our conversation below.
Kyrus Keenan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Working as a mental health content creator on Instagram and Facebook has been the best experience of my entire life. It is such a meaningful project and responsibility that I proudly take on every day. I love being able to use my platform to brighten people’s days, demystify the conversation around mental health, and end the stigma surrounding it.
I was diagnosed with ADHD, severe depression, and generalized anxiety disorder when I was 35 years old. Before that, I used to beat myself up all the time, thinking that I was weak, not motivated, or stupid. But come to find out, there was a lot going on with my brain. The diagnosis I received as an adult made my life make sense.
After I was diagnosed, I started to learn more about my mental health conditions and how to manage them. I also started to share my story with others, and I was amazed at how many people reached out to me to say that they resonated with my experiences. That’s when I realized that I could use my platform to make a difference.
I started creating content about mental health on Instagram and Facebook, and my audience grew quickly. I love sharing my story, tips on managing mental health conditions, and resources for others who are struggling. I also love using humor and levity to make the conversation around mental health more accessible.
My followers, known as Vibers, look forward to my candid conversations. They find solace in my honesty and comfort in my humor. I am so grateful for their support, and I am honored to be a part of their mental health journeys.
Working as a mental health content creator has been the best experience of my life because it allows me to:
1. Make a difference in people’s lives. I know that my content has helped people to feel less alone, more understood, and more hopeful. This is incredibly rewarding to me.
2. End the stigma surrounding mental health. By sharing my story and openly talking about my mental health conditions, I am helping to normalize mental illness and reduce the stigma associated with it.
3. Add levity to the conversation surrounding mental health. I believe that humor can be a powerful tool for healing and coping. I love using humor in my content to make the conversation around mental health more accessible and less daunting.
All of this is meaningful to me because I have been there. I know what it feels like to struggle with mental health. I know what it feels like to feel alone, misunderstood, and hopeless. But I also know that there is hope. I am living proof of that.
I am grateful for the opportunity to use my platform to make a difference in the lives of others. I am proud to be a mental health content creator, and I am excited to continue this journey.
I am committed to continuing to use my platform to brighten people’s days, demystify the conversation around mental health, and end the stigma surrounding it. I believe that everyone deserves to feel loved, supported, and understood. I hope that my work can help to create a world where everyone feels comfortable talking about their mental health and seeking the help they need.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got into using social media to talk about my mental health journey because I wanted to share my story and help others who were struggling. I also wanted to demystify the conversation around mental health and end the stigma surrounding it.
I chose Instagram and Facebook to highlight my journey because they are two of the most popular social media platforms, and they allow me to reach a wide audience. I also like that both platforms offer a variety of features that I can use to create engaging and informative content, such as photos, videos, and live streams.
I found that making simple, quick, and funny videos surrounding mental health was the best way for me to communicate with people and for people to understand why I do what I do and who I am as a person. I think that humor can be a powerful tool for healing and coping, and I love using it to make the conversation around mental health more accessible and less daunting.
I am most proud of the fact that my work has made a difference in people’s lives. I have received so many messages from people who have told me that my content has helped them to feel less alone, more understood, and more hopeful. This is incredibly rewarding to me.
I want my audience to know that they are not alone in their struggles with mental health. I also want them to know that there is hope, and that recovery is possible. I want them to feel comfortable talking about their mental health and seeking the help they need.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience on Instagram and Facebook by:
1. Creating engaging and informative content. I share my story, tips on managing mental health conditions, and resources for others who are struggling. I also use humor and levity to make the conversation around mental health more accessible and less daunting.
2. Being consistent. I post new content on a regular basis, so that my followers know when to expect new updates.
3. Interacting with my followers. I respond to comments and questions, and I participate in discussions. I want to build relationships with my followers and create a community where people feel comfortable talking about their mental health.
4. Collaborating with other content creators. I collaborate with other mental health content creators to cross-promote each other’s content and reach a new audience.
Here are some tips and advice for other content creators who create content surrounding mental health on Instagram and Facebook:
1. Be authentic. People can tell when you’re being genuine, so it’s important to be yourself and share your own experiences.
2. Be informative. People want to learn from you, so make sure your content is accurate and up-to-date.
3. Be respectful. Mental health is a sensitive topic, so it’s important to be respectful of your audience and avoid using any language that could be offensive or harmful.
4. Be creative. There are many different ways to create content about mental health, so find a style that works for you and that you’re passionate about.
5. Be patient. It takes time to build an audience, so don’t get discouraged if you don’t see results immediately. Just keep creating great content and engaging with your audience, and you’ll eventually start to see growth.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspects of being a mental health content creator on Instagram and Facebook for me are:
1. Hearing feedback from my audience about their mental health journey. It is incredibly rewarding to hear that my content has helped people to feel less alone, more understood, and more hopeful. I receive messages all the time from people who share their stories with me and thank me for using my platform to talk about mental health. It is humbling to know that I am making a difference in people’s lives.
2. Lending my platform to mental health professionals. I have collaborated with many mental health professionals over the years to create content and interview on my podcast. I believe that it is important to amplify the voices of mental health professionals and make their expertise accessible to a wider audience.
3. Being a black male mental health content creator. There are not many of us out there, and I am proud to be a part of this community. I believe that it is important to represent diversity in the mental health field. I want to show black men and boys that they are not alone in their struggles with mental health, and that there is help available.
I am grateful for the opportunity to use my platform to make a difference in the world. I am passionate about mental health advocacy, and I am committed to continuing to use my platform to share my story, educate others, and end the stigma surrounding mental health.
I hope that my work can inspire people (especially black men and boys) to speak out about their mental health. I want to create a world where everyone feels comfortable talking about their mental health and seeking the help they need.
