We were lucky to catch up with Kyrah Radney recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kyrah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think success means something different for everyone. To me it takes discipline, trial and error, and implementing those lessons to achieve success in whatever it is you’re doing. As a content creator and an entrepreneur, I’m constantly learning and trying our new things; whether it be a video concept, a design, or a social media challenge. It doesn’t always work out how I’d hope initially, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t successful – it just means I’ve gathered new lessons to use to make the next project even better. That’s really where I get my mental model on success from; just constant trial and error in my daily life. It’s all about your ability to be flexible and coachable.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hey everyone! My name is Kyrah (Ky-Ruh) and I’m a content creator and serial entrepreneur. I run a custom sneaker business (kyrahskustoms) and I’m a lifestyle content creator on TikTok, Instagram and Youtube primarily. I also love doing lifestyle photography and shooting travel content. Whether I’m painting some sneakers for someone or shooting some content, I pride myself on finding ways to share different perspectives. I’m most proud of my ability to be vulnerable with my work – I like to keep it real and that shows through my content and the way I brand myself.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
It’s not that I didn’t know about it, but I underestimated the power of utilizing Youtube and TikTok as search engines. There’s so much knowledge on those platforms, free knowledge that I could’ve used even more than I did when I first started my creative journey.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Honestly, I’m constantly working to build my audience on socials but the key is becoming relatable. It’s important to be comfortable in who you are, as that energy will show up on camera. As I’ve continued to grow my platforms I’ve found that the biggest thing you can do to secure an audience is to create selfless content rather than selfish content. Show up as yourself, allow yourself to be vulnerable, and invite your audience to give you feedback and come back for more. I’d love to chat further if anyone needs help or encouragement/advice.
