Be Social Society was born out of a desire to create a social club where like-minded individuals—young professionals, creatives, and changemakers—could come together to network, collaborate, and celebrate culture. Our mission is to foster meaningful connections because we believe that success and growth are deeply rooted in relationships and shared experiences.

As someone who grew up as a military brat, moving around the world, I often found myself in new environments where building connections was challenging. At times, I felt lost trying to navigate spaces that didn’t feel inclusive or accessible to me. I realized that instead of trying to fit into spaces created for others, I could build one of my own—a dynamic, welcoming environment where people like me could thrive.

I love spaces that energize and inspire, whether it’s an exhilarating event like a rooftop mixer or a cozy vibe like an open mic night filled with soulful poetry. What makes Be Social Society special is the diversity of experiences we create, allowing members to find their niche while connecting with people from all walks of life. I’m passionate about building circles where everyone feels like they belong, and I’m constantly inspired by the unique contributions each member brings to the table.

Our events aren’t just about networking—they’re about fostering genuine relationships, sparking creativity, and celebrating the power of community. We want people to leave our spaces feeling seen, empowered, and ready to uplift others in return.

On the other hand, The Bright Minds Collective Foundation, our nonprofit arm, is dedicated to empowering underrepresented communities through education, mentorship, and innovative initiatives. This mission is deeply personal to me because I’ve seen firsthand the impact of gaps in resources and representation.
Growing up, I witnessed how a lack of access could limit opportunities for incredibly talented individuals. When I moved from California to Baltimore, I saw this issue from a new perspective—living in food deserts and watching others struggle to see beyond the city they grew up in. It became clear that many people weren’t just lacking resources but also exposure to the possibilities that exist beyond their immediate surroundings.

Bright Minds Collective was created to bridge these gaps by offering tools, support, and platforms for individuals who might otherwise be overlooked. Through our work, we aim to inspire growth, create meaningful change, and ensure that every bright mind has the chance to shine.

Together, Be Social Society and The Bright Minds Collective are two sides of the same mission: to empower individuals, build stronger communities, and create opportunities for connection, growth, and transformation.

Kyra, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

My name is Kyra Harris, and I’m the Founder and CEO of Be Social Society and The Bright Minds Collective. Together, these platforms are dedicated to fostering meaningful connections, empowering individuals, and creating lasting impact through community-driven initiatives.

I was fortunate to grow up surrounded by love, family, and camaraderie. My parents instilled in me the importance of giving back, hosting, and creating spaces for others to thrive, whether through our church or community. Even during times when I felt displaced, my family prioritized building connections and uplifting those around us.

As I came of age, I began hosting dinners and events in my home, which eventually outgrew those spaces. After moving to Baltimore for school, I quickly realized how often professional networks lacked authenticity and depth. There was a need for spaces where relationships, creativity, and collaboration were prioritized over transactional interactions. This inspired me to create environments where young professionals, creatives, and entrepreneurs could truly thrive—both personally and professionally.

At Be Social Society, we curate experiences that go beyond typical networking. From lively happy hours to impactful business development workshops, our events are designed to bring people together in ways that foster collaboration and build genuine community. Collaborating with incredible organizations like Under Armour, iMentor, and DC Techsgiving has only strengthened the support and love we’ve received from the community.

What sets Be Social Society apart is our focus on inclusivity, authenticity, and empowerment. We strive to create spaces where people feel safe to grow, express their true selves, and uplift one another. We aim to solve challenges such as isolation, lack of opportunity, and the transactional nature of traditional networking by building deeper connections and fostering meaningful interactions.

One of my proudest achievements is witnessing the tangible impact our work has had on individuals’ lives. Seeing people transform their careers, form lasting relationships, and grow their confidence through our events continues to fuel my passion. Additionally, I take great pride in how our mentorship and efforts have positively impacted the youth in Baltimore. Through initiatives like mentoring programs, donation drives, school adoptions, afterschool teaching, and working with children with disabilities, we strive to create opportunities, provide support, and inspire the next generation. These experiences remind me of the power of community and the difference we can make when we come together.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?

Managing a team and maintaining high morale starts with fostering a sense of purpose, belonging, and trust. At both Be Social Society and Bright Minds Collective, I strive to create a culture where every team member feels heard, valued, and empowered to bring their unique strengths to the table.

Open communication and regular check-ins form the foundation of our approach. I take pride in celebrating wins—big or small—and encouraging creativity, which helps create a positive and motivating environment. Transparency is equally vital; keeping the team informed about our goals, progress, and the impact of their efforts ensures everyone understands how their contributions play a key role in the bigger picture.

Mentorship and opportunities for growth are central to maintaining high morale. I focus on understanding each team member’s advanced skills, helping them perform at their best, and aligning their contributions with our shared vision. Recognizing and appreciating individual efforts not only fosters team cohesion but also strengthens our commitment to achieving our mission.

Additionally, I place a strong emphasis on work-life balance. I know firsthand how burnout can stifle creativity and productivity, so I strive to cater to my team’s needs, ensuring they feel supported. Celebrating milestones and offering encouragement during challenges builds resilience and keeps the team inspired and engaged.
