We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kyndra Scott a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kyndra, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
Have you ever taken a risk? It’s a big yes for me. I use to be afraid of taking risk, all the what if’s & negative thoughts that seemed to plague my mind evey time I even thought about taking a risk. When you are taking risks you don’t know what the outcome will be, which is what makes it scary.
Leaving my Dental career and becoming a full-time Entrepreneur was a risk for me. Stepping out and creating my own income, something that I never did before was a big risk, and a scary one at that.
With no training, and no experience of starting my own business, I felt like I had all the odds against me. I also knew if I allowed fear to overtake me that I would always remain stagnant and not go after what my heart desired.
My goal was to be my own boss and learn how to create my own wealth so I could teach my children to do the same.
So after ALOT of praying and seeking God, I jumped out there and what I thought was a RISK was really an opportunity. God allowed me to see that I could truly do whatever I put my heart into. I learned not to be afraid because as long as I put God first I could do ALL things not some things but ALL things that’s according to his scriptures.
Here I am six years later, speaking to you as a serial entrepreneur, creating my own wealth with no regrets!
So I want to say to whomever read this don’t be afraid to take risk. Pray on whatever it is that you want to do, and if God gives you peace then go for it!
Kyndra, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My main business is my childcare business. Currently I am only offering before & after school services and drop off care. I give children a safe environment and we offer daily homework assistance, daily snacks, a weekly memory verse (scripture) and daily fun & exciting free play!
My side business is my teeth whitening business, being in the dental field I took my experience and created my own business with it. Who doesn’t like a brighter smile right!
I am also an Author I have 3 children’s books with a fourth one on the way! They are all available on Amazon.
The titles are :
Jesus Teaches me my ABC’s.
A day at the Zoo with the Scott’s.
Happy Beeday Bella.
What makes me stand out with all my businesses is that I implement Christ in all of them in some form of fashion. I do this because he is the one who gave me the ideas in the first place and I want to be able to point my customers back to him!
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of getting new clients pertaining to my business was word of mouth. I gained so many more daycare babies by parents sharing their experiences with me, with others that they knew.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I had to pivot so many times in my business. Being it was my first time creating a business there was alot of things that I didn’t know. Over the years I had to switch the way I operated my business so it would have longevity. Childcare contracts with parents I had to be precise and thorough not only that I had to make sure everyone abide by the policies that I created.
Pivoting certain things in my business helped me gain more control when it came to collecting weekly payments from my clients and for me serving them more efficiently.
