We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kyndall Owens a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kyndall, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
As a visual artist, I am most inspired to create when I know I can share my work with others that may be going through a hard time. With that said, some meaningful projects I have done include a painting I did for the family of Miss USA’s, Cheslie Kryst. She unfortunately passed away suddenly and I decided to paint a beautiful portrait of her to display at her Celebration of Life service. The smile that it brought to her family was unforgettable.
Another meaningful project I did was a painting I created for a mass shooting victim in Raleigh, NC. I decided to paint a portrait for Miss Lynn Gardner as she lay in critical condition in the hospital as she recovers from the shooting. I painted a beautiful and vibrant portrait of Miss Gardner that now hangs in her hospital room. I was notified that when Miss Gardner saw the painting she lit up. This was so meaningful to me knowing that my artwork is bringing joy to those in pain and healing those that are hurt.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Kyndall Owens, a visual artist born and raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia. In 2013, I moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, which is where I currently reside. Art has always been a passion of mine. I started off doodling on the walls at home to doodling in class and church, which led to me basically bringing my sketchbook everywhere I went. I would give out drawings to random people, and I always enjoyed the smiles and reactions I got from sharing my art.
Seeing the joy my art has brought to others is the reason I started seriously pursuing my deep passion for creating. While I am a “self-taught” artist, I would prefer to call myself a God-taught artist. I believe God put this gift in me to create pieces with the purpose of bringing joy and happiness to others when they encounter my work. Over the years, I have had experiences with numerous mediums of art, but I have found that acrylic and oil pieces are my niche. I paint various pieces ranging from portraits to sceneries to abstracts to animals… You name it!
My art has been featured in calendars, news articles, the Marbles Museum, the Black Friday Market, Good Trip Gallery, and more. Also, I have also been recognized by celebrities, including Mo’ Nique, Jhene Aiko, Dwayne Wade, Toosii, Swae Lee, D.K. Metcalf, Tamela Mann, Russ, and Lil Baby, and I pray for many more to come! I also do custom work, host paint classes & live paintings, and much more. I’m thrilled to see where my passion for art takes me!

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience on social media by staying consistent with my posts. I made my Instagram page in 2018 and now at over 6k followers, my page is still continuing to soar. The advice I’d give to upcoming creatives on social media is to stay consistent. Post everyday! Even if you feel like you’re annoying and bothersome, continue to share your work, whether it’s an actual post or even a story. Also, utilize hashtags so that others can find your page when they are browsing. POST POST POST!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
A goal of mine is to one day own my own gallery/ workspace so that I can share my work with others and also have a larger space to create freely.
