Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kymberly Garza. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Kymberly thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
From the start, I wanted a meaningful name for my boutique. After a few name changes I decided to name it Majaki Boutique. In our household, there are 3 females, my mom, Maria, my sister, Jakeline, and me, Kymberly (Kikis). Everytime one of us is going out, we go to each other for advice on our outfits or borrow each other’s apparel or accessories. Whenever we’re indecisive about our outfit, we go to each other for advice. Whether it’s the earrings, belt, a different color purse or shoes. If I don’t have the missing piece for my outfit, I know they will. We communicate most about our outfits and it’s what has brought us closer. That’s when it hit me, Majaki, the perfect boutique name – my mom, my sister and I.
Kymberly, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Kymberly Garza, the 22 year old owner of Majaki Boutique. Back in 2019, after graduating High School, I wanted to start my own business. As I attended the University of Houston-Downtown to earn my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, I worked full time in retail to start saving money.
During junior year in college, I thought about opening my own boutique, but the goal felt too big to accomplish. Senior year I was convinced that I could do it, it was as if God sent me a sign. The classes I took that semester taught me exactly what I needed to start my business. I decided to take a big risk and start on my boutique. Knowing it was going to take time to be recognized and get our name out there, but it was going to be worth it. Our boutique recently opened online, July 2023, with the help of my family, friends and followers sharing our content, we’re slowly growing and being recognized. As for clothing, I’ve had my best friend and my cousin model our pieces. Throughout Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok we’re able to promote our products. Since I graduated from UHD, I’ve working everyday to give the best to my clients such as being more consistent on all platforms and engaging more with my followers.
Growing up, shopping for purses, jewelry, clothing, shoes, was my favorite hobby. When it comes to apparel and accessories, you can always mix and match different pieces. Starting the boutique was the best decision business I could start from myself. With the experience working in retail, I had an idea of what I needed and how it functioned. In our boutique we have dresses, tops, bottoms, outwear and jewelry.
My clients make me proud by putting my boutique name out there and supporting our small business. Whether it’s with a like, share, or comment, even recommending us to others, I appreciate all the support. In the future, I’d like to have open a store location and begin to promote men apparel.
I am fully in charge of marketing, being behind the scenes, uploading new merchandise to the website, doing inventory and shipping out orders. With the help of my family, I’ve learned many things along the way.
How did you build your audience on social media?
In this generation, social media is very important to reach a bigger audience. When it comes to promoting, upload videos, images and ads, social media is your best friend. Adding reels on Instagram and trending audios on TikTok will make your posts appear on more feeds. Being consistent will get you to more viewers and engage with more accounts. Going along with trending situations will make your business feel more friendly and easier to talk to. Content doesn’t always have to be about business, posting a few relatable jokes here and there changes the way customers see you.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
When it comes to growing my clients, collaborating with other business owners and doing giveaways helps with gaining clientele. As well as showing appreciation to clients by gifting them products, doing free shipping on orders over $100 and doing same day deliveries. Being appreciative to customers lets them we are thankful for their support.
