Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kylie Young. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kylie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
This is such a hard question because I have been involved in so many works that have meant so much to me and filled my cup in different ways. So I don’t think I could possibly pick my top most meaningful project I’ve worked on, but I will tell you about one of my most meaningful projects.
This one is actually rather recent. Title of show at new Village arts really stole my heart. I was cast as Heidi in Title of Show in late July of 2025 and we closed late September.
To me this was a dream project. I connected so deeply with the character of Heidi, and her struggles as a performer hit so close to home for me. And then there was the cast and creative team. I felt so supported and was given the space to create, be silly, and try thing in a safe environment. We were given the opportunity really make this production our own. This environment also fostered such a close bond between me and my classmates. We truly became a family and each other‘s closest confidences. These people mean the world to me. It is because of them and our friendships, that we were able to create a very vulnerable and real version of this show. We felt safe with eachother, both on stage and off, which culminated in a very connected and special production.
Being able to tell the story of Title of show, which is the story of four friends creating a show from the ground up and all the challenges that go along with that, with the people I did, made this show so hard to let go of. This project made me face my fears, grow as a performer, gain lifelong friendships, and show audience a piece of theatre that I was so incredibly proud of.

Kylie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As a performer, my artistic brand has been described as Haley Williams meets Megan Hilty with the dash of spooky, and that really does a nice job summing me up.
I am a Musical Theatre performer, but I also work in commercial and film. When I’m not performing, I choreograph and I also teach Musical Theatre to kids.
I started performing very young. I was only two when I started my first dance class and loved every single minute of it. But it was my first musical, Lil Abner, that gave me the Musical Theatre bug. I was only 10 years old, but even then I knew this is what I wanted to be doing for the rest of my life.
As a performer and as a teacher, my mission statement is all about individuality and self acceptance. I strive to not only teach to my students the importance of being your own person and loving and accepting that person, rather than trying to fit the mold that you think you need to fit, but also leading by example. Figuring out who you are, what you love, and being confident in that can, not only bring tremendous amounts of joy, but also brings something so special to each character you portray.
I am proud of the growth and the progress that I have made in my career thus far and I’m looking forward to many more years of performing and teaching the next generation of theatre creatives.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
The one big resource I really wish I had realized was out there when I was younger is the power of knowing people in my industry . I very much stayed in my own sphere when I was younger, and I realized that the more friends and the more resources you have out there, the farther you’ll go in your career and also you will have this beautiful community and network of friends who are all striving for the same things you are.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
That you have to put yourself into a box or a category to make it in the entertainment industry. More specifically, Musical Theatre. When I was younger and first getting into the professional world, I was told that there were so many rules that you had to follow especially when it came to your look. It felt almost claustrophobic going to auditions in these “ audition outfits” that sells so in authentic to me, but fit the mold.
Now, luckily things are changing for the better and individuality is much more celebrated than it was. Being able to come as yourself to an audition is so freeing.
