Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kylie River. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Kylie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I have definitely known I’ve wanted to be an actress and singer for as long as I can remember. Music, Art, and Performing were all parts of my childhood growing up since my mom was always big into the Arts she even went to an Arts high school. As a kid I was always singing and dancing around in the living room and dressing up like characters from my favorite shows. I think once we start getting older we start to look at how everyone around us lives their lives, and we start to feel a certain pressure to look this way, or act that way. You can start to doubt what you are capable of. My love for Acting and getting to be on set makes me remember all the fonder moments in my childhood. I remember I don’t need to take life so seriously. It makes me feel like a kid again… and I am so grateful for that feeling.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
All though Acting is something I’ve always wanted to do my journey in the performance industry as you could say, actually started with my career in Athletics. I started Pursuing Parkour as a professional career and I learned about so much from hard work and dedication, to Consistency and discipline. Once I started competing I had to change my lifestyle to be able to reach that next level. And when I was coaching is when I happened to meet my very first Acting coach. She is still today one of my biggest inspirations and she played such a huge part in me getting signed with my first agency. For me at least once I got signed, it was all just about learning as much as I could as quickly as possible, and getting the most experience as I possibly could. That is what pushed me to move out to Atlanta. There were more opportunities for me, and I was willing to work as hard as I needed to in order to make my dreams happen. Since the time of my very first Acting gig I have been doing everything I can to take it to the next level. Each role I’ve gotten has been more and more significant to the type of Art I want to create in the world. “If you’re not making a difference in the world then what are you doing” is a huge slogan I try to live by. Though I do believe in making Art because you love it, I thinks it’s so important to me at least that what I make has an impact.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Well my best answer for this would probably be being ok with rejection. The film industry, or at least from personal experience when it comes from the Acting side it can be pretty brutal. You are constantly faced with rejection and you have to learn to be ok with it and move on. I can definitely speak for me, though I believe most people would agree that’s an uncomfortable feeling. But if you don’t unlearn your fear of rejection you simply won’t be able to grow in the industry.
