We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kylie Holman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kylie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I’ve ever worked on is a non profit yoga foundation which is currently in the works. I strive to create a society where people feel safe and loved by combining the healing modalities such as yoga, sound healing, breath techniques, reiki and music. I’m not alone when I say I have experienced trauma in my life, most of us have. I want to share the healing modalities that helped me out of a once very dark place while also helping others connect to their inner divine feminine.
Kylie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started out in the music industry as a singer/songwriter and went to college for audio engineering. I’ve released six singles, four of which I signed to record labels across the globe and have starred in and helped direct two music videos. Since then I have taken my love for music in a different direction, becoming a certified sound healer and yoga teacher. I provide yoga sessions, sound healing sessions, reiki energy work, vocal features, and chanting sessions. There is a lot of pressure from society to act or look a certain way, especially in the music industry and trauma stems from that. I want my clients to know when they come to me they are coming to a free, non judgement, but most importantly, a SAFE space to heal.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
When I first began building my presence on social media there was a lot of pressure to obtain large amounts of likes and engagement on my photos. I felt my content had to look a certain way and be perfectly edited or it was not worthy, I was constantly deleting and reposting or racking my brain for the best caption. This approach made social media an anxiety trigger which in term effected my following. Everything revolving my social media accounts changed when I started letting my true self shine through the screen. I was always so worried about what I thought people wanted to see, that I never realized my truth is what my followers would connect to. For those of you just starting out on social media, my advice is to be your genuine and amazing self. We are all unique in our own way and your gift is needed.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is knowing that there are always going to be more layers of creativity to be explored. I dive deeper every day to learn more about my capabilities as a creative and what I can create in this world and someday leave behind, it is truly magical.
