We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kylie Grooters. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kylie below.
Alright, Kylie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
My parents have always been my biggest role models and supporters throughout my entire life. As a kid they always made sure I worked hard for what I wanted both in sports and academics. Growing up I had the privilege of watching them start businesses of their own, so I definitely gained my entrepreneurial spirit from them. After graduating college and moving to Denver, they continued to support my every career move, even when some didn’t always seem logical. No matter what the situation, they always give me their wise input, but trust I will make the correct decision for what I believe is right for myself. Ultimately, all of this led to me owning my own business. The best part is I have my mom as my accountant and my dad as my “business consultant”. In a roundabout way it has become a family business.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
For those who have not read my story, my name is Kylie and I am the owner of SweatNET Denver. SweatNET is a membership based community that allows members to attend 4-6 events every month that we host with our local partners. We also provide incentives to our members to help them live a healthier lifestyle, while supporting all the local health and wellness businesses Denver has to offer.
My passion behind my brand is to curate a community that members feel comfortable to explore the health + fitness industry. An industry that can be very intimidating and sometime viewed as judgmental, we’ve created a space for anyone to join and explore where they belong.
Not only is my passion for our members, but also for all the businesses I get to work alongside. It’s been so fun to work with like-minded individuals and help build up each others brands. At SweatNET we do this by offering marketing packages for our partners at affordable rates. We’ve also recently began to host “Studio Socials” where we invite all the local business owners to come together for a night of networking.
Overall, we truly are a company passionate about bringing people together. Whether it’s on a yoga mat or over a cocktail, there is space for everyone in our community!
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
What I have quickly learned owning a business in Denver is that word of mouth is the best marketing you can have. I would say almost 80% of our members come from word of mouth. We thrive off having our members invite their friends to join events and eventually they become members. When people have the opportunity to experience our community for themselves, they are more likely to become a SweatNET member.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I became the owner of SweatNET Denver I only worked on it part-time for about 1.5 years, while still working a full-time job. To say I stayed busy and was under a lot of stress would be an understatement. Eventually the chaos of life caught up to me and I made the decision to leave my full-time job and invest into my busy with everything I had. This definitely was a massive shift financially, time-wise and socially. I had to readjust to working remotely and being completely in charge of what I did with my time. I had the freedom of time, which can be a blessing and a curse depending on what you do with that freedom. Overall, it has been the best decision I have ever made.
