We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kyli Boyd a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kyli thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
I am 100% happier as a business owner. Of course, I have had those thoughts of how having a regular job and that “security” of knowing you are for sure going to make X amount that week. As a business owner you go through slow times and during those times you can’t help but have those thoughts of not having to constantly be hustling to make sure your booked and busy. If I weigh the pros and cons of owning my own business their is so much more positive opportunities that it has given me. Whether that be the flexibility of my work schedule, the gratification you feel when you meet your goals or the great clients you meet along the way.
Kyli, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Kyli Boyd. I am the owner, cosmetic tattoo artist, and esthetician at KB Aesthetics. I offer cosmetic tattoos for brows (microbladint, ombre/powder, nano brows) and lips (lip blush) as well as brow shaping services like tinting, waxing/shaping & laminations. I have always loved makeup and, of course, brows. Starting in 2016, going into school for esthetics instantly was drawn to shaping brows. So when I decided to take it to a more permanent level with permanent makeup, I knew right there I was doing what I was meant to do. I am most proud of being able to create natural brows for clients that last and help boost their confidence.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What has helped me build my reputation is by creating quality work and being authentic. Connecting with clients and building those relationships can’t be beat. I always strive to be better with myself and my craft.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Just showing up. Creating quality content that shows your personality and art. You can’t be afraid of getting yourself out there. I used to get nervous of posting content in fear of what people might think. You have to know that while some people might not like you, there’s a lot out there who will. As long as you are being your authentic self you will attract the right people.
