We were lucky to catch up with Kyler Lyons recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kyler, thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
While I am very outspoken in my personal life. I had kept myself within the boundaries of what I deemed the safe zone in. When God led me to move to Arizona from the Chicagoland suburbs (where I was born and raised) in 2021, I knew I had to go. That was the hardest step of my journey thus far. When it came time to walk in faith and launch my Podcast. I was much less nervous. I knew absolutely nothing about this field. But I had a newfound grit to me. I had been a consumer of content. But never on the producing end. Being able to encourage and uplift others along the way had made all of the risk worth it.
Kyler, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a Christian Podcaster. My faith is what steers my craft. I prayerfully reflect on scripture and biblical themes and topics to discuss in a way that gives everyone a seat at the table. I include scripture reading and prayer into my episodes because I don’t want my audience to be exclusive. If you’ve never read the bible before at all. Or if you’ve got half of it memorized there’s something for you in each episode. What sets me apart is that I have my B.S. in Military Psychology. And am currently pursuing my M.A. in Clinical Mental Health. So at the heart of it all is my love for others. Regardless of shared beliefs, I desire to impact others positively above all else. While still having fun and being a goofball. Because that is also who I am innately wired to be! I hold the belief that “if you are the smartest person in the room, you need to find a new room”. So my lens is not that of someone who has it all figured out by any means.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
My peers! I cannot emphasize this enough. Being able to collaborate with other creatives is so rewarding. I have a group of friends (shoutout to Ally and Erika) that I get together with and we brainstorm. We talk about what’s working, what we have upcoming, projects or ideas we would like feedback on. It’s been so essential to my journey. Realizing that it’s okay to ask for help and to not be an expert in everything right off the bat.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
My mission statement for my podcast is based on John 15:5 “I am the vine. you are the branches. The one who remains in me and I in him produces much fruit. Because you can do nothing without me”. My invitation is for listeners to come along and join me as I navigate living of the vine, in the valley. No matter what fruit someone feels they are producing in this season, they will always have a space in my vineyard (Of the Vine).
