Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kylee O’Donnell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kylee, appreciate you joining us today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
My whole life, I was training to be a classical flutist in a huge orchestra. Hours a day for many years, this was everything I was working toward. However, when my father was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer during my graduate program, I started really taking a look at things. What did I REALLY want? Did I want this career for me or to prove to others that I was successful?
I really started to question everything I believed, leading me to a spiritual awakening.
After my father passed away from colon cancer in January 2021, I was no longer feeling resonate with playing in a professional orchestra.
This was nearly heart-wrenching, realizing my forever dream didn’t feel right anymore.
I felt alone, saddened by the loss of my father, and lost.
I asked the universe/god/source how I could combine my new spiritual side with my musical gifts, for I didn’t want to completely throw away all the time, energy, and love I had poured into my craft.
I dropped into a meditation, and my phone started playing the music of a Native American Flute.
I just knew I was supposed to use my musical gifts to help others, and I started sound healing. I bought a Native American Flute that day, and started improvising for the first time in my life.
It was freeing, liberating- I had found my next path, all thanks to being willing to let go of the past, and ask.
Kylee, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
So since that point in January 2021, I have been offering sound healing! I also learned Reiki during this time, which is a natural healing modality, and use both of those modalities to help my clients with stress, anxiety, transitions, and spiritual growth and development.
In my in-person healing sessions, this may include Reiki, Sound Healing, Oracle Cards, and Guidance.
My clients leave feeling more relaxed, less anxious, with more clarity, and sleeping better.
I work in South Austin and also virtually.
It all starts with looking inward and being willing to do the inner work and heal the past.
I am also a psychic (as we all are), and offer guidance and information in all of my sessions.
I do many events in Austin as well- from women’s circles to sound healing events!
I’m most proud of how empathic I am – I can REALLY feel and understand what my clients are going through and offer them a safe place to express their emotions.
I’m really excited about my album of healing flute music that I recorded and published myself!
It’s over an hour of relaxing music for journaling, meditation, massage, and more. That’s on my website for instant download :)
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Yes, trigger warning for physical assault ( I won’t go into details).
About 6 weeks ago, I was physically assaulted by a man I met that day. I had never been in a situation like this, and it was pretty terrifying. I decided to press charges, and have spent the last 6 weeks rehabbing my body, moving out of my apartment because he lived nearby, healing on all levels.
It is my goal to stand up for women who have been through the same, to share my voice and my story, and to be strong for those who felt they didn’t have a voice, or may have been too fearful to speak up.
This has been one of the most difficult things I’ve ever been through. I am really grateful for the work that I do, because I actually had all the tools I needed for my healing.
I had friends and a community who stood behind me and offered their services when I didn’t have the funds.
I knew how trauma is stored in the body, and which modalities to use to heal myself.
Although it was extremely difficult to get through, I’m still here. Honestly, I’m stronger than ever- and so proud of the woman I have become because of this.
I am grateful to share the resources that I’ve used to help others who may be going through the same.
I now have a greater understanding and compassion for those who have been in my position, and I’m confident this experience will allow me to help even more people.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I started helping out with a spiritual community in Austin, and was able to meet dozens of people along the way. By helping build this community from the ground up, people saw me willing to show up, volunteer, and really help create a beautiful community in Austin to help others.
I hosted events, managed the social media, and was a safe place that people could come to when they needed help.
When I decided to transition into my own business, a lot of these connections I made carried over, and then I continued to run events.
I think really showing up in the community- offering free resources and events, supporting others, and being a positive light really helped grow my business into what it’s blossoming into! :)
