Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kylee Genovese. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Kylee, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Ever since I was little, I knew I wanted some type of artistic career. When I was about 10, I wanted to be a fashion designer.
Then when I was about 12, I wanted to be an actor.
A few years ago, I was having a rough time in life. I had a scary wake up call and, one day I woke up and decided I didn’t want to live that way anymore. So I saved up a bunch of money for jewlery supplies, and I started my own business.
I chose jewlery because I grew up being bullied. One thing I was bullied for was my style and appearance. So I thought if I made jewlery that people like me actually like, it would make people like me feel more accepted within society.
As for the acting, I grew up going to haunted houses as often as I could with my parents. I always thought it was so cool, people dressed up in costume and makeup. The way they build everything themselves. It really inspired me, I wanted to be part of that.
This past year, I took a chance on myself. I joined a bunch of acting and film groups on Facebook, and somebody found me. We formed a production team, and I then came out with my first film The Monster Of My Mind filmed by Bradley Liverman. It is pinned to my Facebook profile.
Shortly after that, I got my first gig to be in a music video. Which is where I met the other director I work with, Joe Lupia. Him and I have mutliple films in the works. Our current project is one he let me take control of, and I am super excited to start casting soon! If you’d like to check out Joe’s work, he has links to his work in his Facebook bio!
I also began acting in a haunted house this past year, and plan to again next year! This haunt is named Crooked World Haunted Attraction, located in New Hartford NY! People may know me as Pogo The Clown in my classic neon green and black colors.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started my small business because I wanted to make people feel more accepted. I create jewlery for people who may have gotten bullied growing up for their interests or appearances. Owning a business is way more complicated than people make it out to be. You have to be dedicated to promoting yourself every single day. Reach out to customers, updating your website, thinking of new items, pricing said items, tax information, etc…
When i see customers post photos or videos wearing my jewlery, it makes my entire day. Same goes for if customers reach out to me to tell me how much they love their product! To think that people like what I create enough to spend their hard earned money on it, is mind boggling to me every day and I am so thankful for it. I’ve created pieces for people’s weddings, birthdays, holiday gifts etc.. and its the best feeling in the world.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is seeing how happy your art makes people. Whether I’m acting in a film, acting at the haunted house that I work at, or creating jewlery- I’m making somebody smile. I’m making somebody feel something. That’s all I ever want, is to give people something to smile about.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
A lot of non creatives don’t understand why entrepreneurs choose such a busy lifestyle. People often think we aren’t allowed to be tired, because we chose this.
Yes, our lifestyle is very busy and very hectic at times. But at the end of the day, it’s what we want to do. We enjoy the chaos that comes with creating. We’re striving towards reaching goals every single day, and it gives us something to look forward to.
I may be burnt out at times but, once I get on set or sell a jewlery item- it makes me feel alive. I think that’s what everybody chases. Just the feeling of feeling alive
