We recently connected with Kylee Alejandre and have shared our conversation below.
Kylee, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about the best advice you’ve ever given to a client? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
The best advice that I could give to a client would be to trust your instincts. I can’t begin to tell you how many times a client has told me that they just feel like they should do something in regards to their birth or postpartum in a certain way but they second guess themselves because it’s not the “norm”. In response, I always remind them that they know themselves and their baby best, and they need to trust that! Whether that means choosing an elective cesarean or a home birth, or anything in between, their own instincts should be their greatest guide.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Kylee Alejandre and I own Doulas of Utah, a full-service doula agency that serves Utah county, Salt Lake county, and the surrounding areas.
I entered the field of birth work about 3 years ago after a rather traumatic birth experience of my own. I learned pretty quickly after that experience that education, support, and intuition are so important when it comes to experiencing pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. I have since become very passionate about this work and that passion only continues to grow.
At Doulas of Utah, we offer a wide range of services to support our clients through the many different stages of pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. Those services include birth doula support, postpartum doula support, sibling doula support, lactation counseling, childbirth education classes, and placenta encapsulation. We have an excellent team of professionally certified doulas who offer these services.
As the agency owner, I have the unique responsibility of helping to connect clients with their ideal doula or team of doulas from our team. This something that I take very seriously because I know how important it is to feel completely confident in and comfortable with the person who will be by your side during such and intimate time.
What I would say sets us apart from others is that we strongly value professional training and certification, even in a field that is not regulated. All of our doulas must go through a specific training and become professionally certified in their chosen modalities prior to beginning work with us. At Doulas of Utah, we believe that the specific level of care and support that we offer is one that should be prepared for thoroughly, and for us, that means through training and certification.
Something that we pride ourselves in at Doulas of Utah is our ability to provide unbiased and non-judgmental support to each and every one of our clients. Parenthood is an exceptionally personal journey and we believe strongly in making sure our clients feel completely supported by us in all of their decisions, even if those decisions are different than the ones we would make ourselves.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
I absolutely would. In fact, if I could go back, I would get into this field about ten years earlier than I did!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Effective networking! It has been crucial to my business to connect with the right people in my community and work together with them. This has allowed me to build close relationships and that has certainly helped build my reputation in this market.
