We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kyle’-Simone Armstrong a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kyle’-Simone , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
As a little girl I was always into everything beauty related. The hair, make up, lashes, facials, honestly anything self care related was just everything to me. I knew I didn’t want to go into the hair or make up industry because people are so particular when it comes to those certain things and I didn’t have the patience so I decided to go down a different career path. It wasn’t until COVID-19 occurred when we were forced into a shutdown when I really sat down and started planning for my business K. Simone Beauty Bar. I was in a dark place in my life and I just needed to see some light so I started doing everything that would make me feel better. I vividly remember getting online and browsing mink lash vendors and quickly selecting one and placing a huge bulk order of 200 lashes. I was so scared because I took a risk by placing the order. I could’ve easily been scammed but luckily my package came a few short weeks later. I came up with my business name, created a website and started promoting my business and immediately started making sales. Since launching my business back in February 2022 we have expanded our products list. I have been continuously re-investing back into my business and now we offer more than just lashes, we offer lip gloss, scrubs, bar soaps, lip oils, face serums, body butters, facial cleansers, flutter beauty sets/boxes, and we’ve just recently included an entire yoni collection that has been a game changer for our business!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a 26 year old single mom of two beautiful children. I have a 8 year old daughter named Niyelle and an 23 month old son named Syon. They are who keep me going! I’m originally from Boston, MA but now live in Chesapeake, VA. During COVID-19 I finished medical assisting school and obtained my associates degree. Due to COVID it was very difficult for me to find a job after finishing school. Heck, it was even difficult for me to find childcare for my son. Everywhere had all these new rules, limitations and regulations and it got so frustrating to the point where I just decided to become a temporary stay at home mom. I would get hired for work from home jobs but they never worked out because I had a newborn baby at the time. Well after sitting home for a couple weeks I quickly discovered that my plan of being a stay at home mom wasn’t going to work and I had to figure something out. So I started my business ‘K. Simone Beauty Bar’ and we are your one stop shop literally we have everything beauty related. Our products are affordable, make you look and feel great not only on the outside but they make you feel good inside too. Our products have the best results and work wonders. Our current customers are repeat customers they absolutely love our products and always are looking to restock on all their goods. What sets K. Simone Beauty Bar apart from other businesses is our destiny to be able to serve you ladies with nothing but the top notch quality products for such an affordable price. I’m so proud of the progress of my business so far and I know that if I keep going only great things will come out of this whole dream turned into reality!

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I started my business with 0 followers. Today I have over 1800 followers. My only advice to those looking to build their audience on social media would be to just be your authentic self and post quality content consistently every single day. Study your insights on your social media platforms to learn what times to post. Figure out who your target audience is and how to find them. Look into joining groups on Facebook (Influencer groups, YouTube channel groups, Motivational, etc) and lastly make sure you’re using hashtags in every post. Now I’m not going to lie, it’s going to take some time to grow your following or even get your first sale but just keep being consistent. I’m trying to tell you consistency is key!

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
“Investing in yourself is the best investment you can make.”
Throughout your life, you will be faced will endless opportunities to be able to invest back into yourself. As a entrepreneur I noticed that every time I had a down fall, the thought of giving up entirely on my business would pop in my head. Giving up would never be an option for me though so I started investing in myself and my knowledge every time something wouldn’t work out. I would purchase other aspiring entrepreneurs ebooks, watch ‘How to’ & ‘DIY’ YouTube videos, and network with others so that I could learn as much as I possibly can to become better. I know as a young woman I have plans to evolve in every aspect in my life. When you want better for yourself, you are going to do whatever possible to make that happen. So I challenge you to invest into yourself!
