We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kyle Sherry a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kyle thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I’ve always been very interested in creative work but didn’t really find any footing until a few years ago. I followed the path of going to college and finding a career. After college, I decided to pursue my dream of living in California. I found a job in Santa Barbara and was immediately swept away by the natural beauty. I’ve spent years traveling up and down the coast, into the sierras, and down to the deserts. Growing up in Ohio, I had never seen anything like it and my desires to capture and share everything I was seeing was growing exponentially. Here my passions for nature and photography finally came together.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a photographer, videographer, and educator who is passionate about creating content! I want to use my skills to make your visions come to life.
For photography, my main focus is landscape and nature. I’m very passionate about creating images that look great on display and love printing huge canvases and metal prints. I also love framing my images. I get very excited when I find a beautiful frame and then pick the perfect image to match it.
I’m also available for portrait style shoots as well. There’s no better feeling than capturing emotions.
With my background in education, I’m available for designing and creating training videos and teaching aspiring photographers.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I began focusing on landscape and nature photography, I spent my time finding the best locations and not on the camera settings. I spent 3 weeks traveling the Pacific Northwest visiting several bucket list locations and taking thousands of photos incorrectly. When I returned home and started working through the photos I was very disappointed. I had a few good shots but no where near what I was hoping to come away with. I then started doing the research on how to improve my images. Instead of accepting defeat, I turned my mistakes into a very valuable learning experience.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Seeing the final result of my efforts! I put a lot of time and energy into perfecting my craft and seeing the results of my efforts bring me so much joy and fulfillment.
