We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kyle Morris. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kyle below.
Kyle , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Too often the media represents innovation as something magical that only high-flying tech billionaires and upstarts engage in – but the truth is almost every business owner has to regularly innovate in small and big ways in order for their businesses to survive and thrive. Can you share a story that highlights something innovative you’ve done over the course of your career?
One thing I believe all artists should absolutely do is, to find ways to be efficient and use the opportunities and resources that are accessible around you. It’s important to build relationships with people and be genuine and straightforward. I always have conversations with producers, videographers, local business owners, etc. And say “ How can our two brands help each other? “
It could be as minor as letting someone set up a shop or sell and promote their products at my shows. Not only are they getting traffic from the crowd, but we are also influencing Good Business as well as drawing the demographic of whatever product is being sold. Its a Win/Win situation.
All in All, If you’re willing to take the time to simply communicate with the people around you, Let them know your goals and mission, and always keep in mind that everyone is trying to advance, so find ways you can innovate not only yourselves, but bring something to the table as well!
You never know what type of opportunities may arise!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am a Singer from St.Louis Missouri, I got my start singing song covers and Karaoke on TikTok. After about a few months I began to build up some notoriety on the app and caught the attention of some MTV producers who were putting together a TV show named, “ MTV’s Becoming a Popstar “ Where I competed with Artists from all over the world for a chance to win $100,000 dollars and a chance to film a commercial that would be aired at the VMAs! I was a finalist in the show and placed 3rd.
But, despite the outcome I received a Deal from Pepsi and United Masters in which I am currently working to release new music as well as Advertisements to promote my brand and their brands alike!
My story is quite unorthodox, the beauty of the industry now is the technology we have access to today. I was able to sort of “ Find my Tribe” or Demographic with Social media and Platforms like this one! It has allowed me to share my Passion/ Story with the world. And share my music with people who may not have otherwise come in contact with me!
I have always strived to be the best version of myself and to always do me, regardless of what setting i’m in. I was to promote Authenticity, fully being comfortable with who you are and living a life that you can be happy with and proud of all while spreading love! Life is so short and if you waste it trying to be a people pleaser or live according to how people want you to live you’ll miss out on so many things, and you will never find true happiness!
So I try to lead and show an example to the people who are still figuring things out to show that it’s possible! This is what living an authentic life, doing what makes you happy, and at Peace, all while still treating people with respect, and making good music for the world to enjoy looks like!
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
One of my most effective strategies for growing my supporters has been utilizing things like “ Instagram Reels “ Creating short clips that show relatable and maybe even funny things but that still are relevant to my craft or artistry.
I advise for every upcoming business to take advantage of these free platforms to promote and really showcase what your brand has to offer!
I was recently apart of a Artist Development camp hosted by Pepsi and United masters named “ Pepsi Music Lab” In New York city, Where we had the opportunity to speak to a few Artists as well as Creatives, Entrepreneurs, Etc. in the industry. One of the speakers that stood out to me was an Independent Artist by the name of LaRussel,
He talked about Marketing and Using social media to promote yourself and brand. and one of the things he said was
“ Treat your social media account like your own TV show. How often does your show come on? What kind of TV show is it? “
You want people to see you and your brand as often as possible so you have to be consistent, Look at your show like a Sitcom or even the News. You’re on Air every single day or in this instance as much or how ever often you post!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I began my career is one of the most difficult times in History! ( for some ) During the COVID -19 Pandemic.
Quite an inconvenient time to finally act on my aspirations to be an Singer, but at the beginning of the Pandemic there was a mass spread fear of the virus (as we had not yet found many preventatives against it)
So it was nearly impossible to find an engineer let alone a studio that was allowing artist to record music! So after Weeks and Weeks of tireless searching I had finally found a small studio out in Marshall Missouri 3 and a half ours outside of St.louis.
After weighing my options I had nothing except what I needed to pay for the studio session and just enough money to get gas on the way and a Mask so I wouldn’t get sick!
I drove all the way to Marshall and recorded my first Single “Control“ which was affirmation to myself like “ Ok I think I’ve got the hang of this artist thing” Or at least I thought so….
Despite great effort the song didn’t do too well due to my lack of understanding and little to no fanbase at the time. I was in this fairy tale mindset that “ if I just record and upload a song ill blow up and be a star!” when that couldn’t be further from the truth.
After a couple weeks of feeling defeated I had just so happened to get on instagram and one of the Artists/ Engineers I reached out to by the name of “ Ben Luke “ was booking clients in St.louis. So I booked another session with him and made two more records “ Time” and “ Ride for me” after hearing those records he introduced me to some entrepreneurs in St.Louis and I began to network and learn the business of the industry. As well as began to understand the importance of social media!
Fast forward a few months later My Family created a Management company Named “ One Source Entertainment “ Which consists of My Father Anthony J. , Kurt H. , & Jzanell J. Which has overseen my career since 2020!
I’ve been so blessed despite my journey, but the main moral of the my story I share is to be your biggest fan and your biggest critic! Always be self aware as well as be open to the criticism of others as well. But don’t be afraid to be confident in your work! You will go far on confidence alone, but if you match that with determination as well as Humility. It can open so many doors for you along the way, regardless of your situation!
