We were lucky to catch up with Kyle LaLone recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kyle, thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
For many years I made a living as a music instructor along with mostly doing gigs as a sideman guitarist. But during the last few years of that I started to not feel as fulfilled. I realized I missed being the bandleader and frontman which is what I started out doing as a young musician. So once I saved a certain amount of money I decided to leave my teaching job and a few of the bands I was playing with to start pursuing more opportunities as a bandleader. It was a risk and I did have some fear going into it. But after about a year and a half I’m happy to say I am performing more than I ever have and am mostly doing gigs as a bandleader or solo act. I still do gigs and recording sessions as a sideman guitarist and am happy to do so. But I’m much more fulfilled and feel more in control of my career putting the most effort into my own path as an artist.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a singer-songwriter, bandleader, solo performer, and session guitarist. I graduated from Berklee College of Music in ’08 and have been a professional musician ever since. I have released 2 albums of original country/Americana music and am about to start releasing singles that will lead up to an EP. A few of my songs were used in the movies ‘Midnight In the Switchgrass’ and ‘Where’s Rose.’ I perform regularly around Southern California as a solo act or with a full band at venues ranging from bars, restaurants, and clubs to private events. Along with that I still do gigs as a guitarist with various artists, bands, and agencies. I am also available to record as a session musician, write, and produce for other artists.
I believe what sets me apart is my work ethic, versatility, and professionalism. I am committed to providing the highest quality service, product, and experience to any client I work with.
I feel very fortunate to be living and making a living as a musician in Southern California!
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Go to their shows, listen to and buy their music, and let them know that what they do is meaningful.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Being able to connect and bring happiness to others by doing the thing that brings me the most happiness.
