Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kyle Kastner. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kyle, appreciate you joining us today. One of our favorite things to hear about is stories around the nicest thing someone has done for someone else – what’s the nicest thing someone has ever done for you?
This is a hard question to answer because honestly I have had a lot of incredible experiences in and out of the treatment room. I won’t rank the experiences because they are all important and have profoundly impacted me, but there is one that sticks in the forefront of my mind.
After the passing of our beloved German Shepherd (Archer) in May 2022, one of my clients gifted us a wind chime with the inscription, “Hear the wind and think of me. In your heart I’ll always be. Archer”. We hung the wind chime in the tree that overhangs what was his favorite spot to lounge in the backyard. I can hear the chimes when in session and it warms my heart to know that Archer is still present in our lives, even if not physically. I like to talk to him when I hear them and let him know that he is still loved and missed very much but that I can feel him and know he is still part of our daily lives.
Our dogs are our children, and Archer’s passing was devastating for our household (and beyond – Archer had many friends). This generous act of kindness may seem small but has had a tremendous impact for our mental health and wellness. I am honored and humbled to have such a compassionate friend/client base and strive to show that same level of care for them as they have for me.
Kyle, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
How I became a Massage Therapist is a long story but here is the summary version of it:
I have been told my entire life that I should be a bodyworker. At a young age I learned the value of healing touch and that it was possible to positively affect others through massage and energy work. While I may not have understood it at the time the after effects were evident to me.
In my late 20’s I found myself looking for a change and decided to follow the advice that so many had given me and enrolled at The Colorado School of Healing Arts. In September 2018 I completed my 720 hour certification, passed my state licensing exam, and haven’t looked back since. I worked in the spa industry as Lead Therapist for a few years before deciding to strike out on my own and form Metamorphosis Massage LLC. I have been self-employed ever since and absolutely LOVE it.
Becoming a Massage Therapist was one of the best decisions I ever made and becoming my own boss has made it even better. Working from the comfort of my home allows me to really engage with my clients in a comfortable and relaxed setting. This in turn allows me to be truly present for my clients and provide them with a deeper level of care than I feel is possible in a box/chain scenario. I have much more flexibility with all aspects of my business and craft and that translates to profound sessions with my clients.
Metamorphosis Massage LLC will turn 2 years old in April 2023 and that is something I am extremely proud of. I am thrilled to not only have made it the last two years but to be continuing to grow and thrive as new opportunities present themselves and more clients find me and my practice.
Your health, wellness, trust, and safety are my primary concerns and I will do everything in my power to make sure you receive the best care that my magic hands can provide.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Respect and compassion for everyone who comes through your doors. I am so very fortunate to have cultivated a strong and loyal client base based on mutual respect, compassion and trust. Because of this I have had very little (to no) drama in my practice. Being genuine, meeting your clients where they are, and maintaining professional and healthy boundaries have served me very well over the last 4.5 years of my career and I will continue to make sure that my clients are provided with the highest quality customer care/service I can provide.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Word of mouth is the best advertising. You can look at promotional materials, watch ads on social media, or look at a fancy website, but you are more likely to seek the services provided when someone you know recommends them. I would say about half of my clients have come to me through the recommendation of others. For that I thank all my clients who have helped spread the word about my business. Your support is instrumental to my success and it means the world to me that you encourage others to experience my space and craft.
