We recently connected with Kyle Hoffman and have shared our conversation below.
Kyle, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The story behind the mission starts long ago. I have always craved speed. I was initially enamored with horse racing but transitioned to automobiles as I became a teenager.
I’m still enamored with horse racing but again… speed is the excitement.
My mission has always been to afford speed. We all dream of Ferrari, Porsche, and Lamborghini but… most of us settle for a Toyota or Hyundai.
So… I focus on depreciated examples of automobiles that were once the pinnacle of speed.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m an automotive YouTuber having introduced Depreciation Nation more than two years ago.
Initially launched in Georgia, life changes brought us to Ohio and… as they say, the rest is history.
The channel is a combination of automobiles to buy, automobiles expected to appreciate in value, budget friendly projects, and celebs within the industry.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Social media isn’t easy. It’s a journey. Stiff competition and changing algorithms create scenarios where one must constantly adapt and innovate. Sometimes, we have planned content with an existing project that has a significant financial investment only to move in a different direction with a different project as the interest wasn’t there.
Sometimes there are pieces that I’m really excited about that flop while pieces we do just to keep content consistent get significantly more views.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I initially started with a team of like-minded people. We were fortunate in that, we had access to high-quality equipment that allowed me to fund the purchase of equipment over 9 or 10 months.
In hindsight, it was foolish to think we would still be doing this together years later.
Life continues, people grow, and as a result… things take a different direction.
There have been growing pains from the relocation… interesting and exciting content continues to be a struggle but… we make it work.
