Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kyle Burton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kyle, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made?
Well while trying to expand the brand I wanted to get into athletic wear. I tried to contact multiple manufacturers in the states but all were too expensive even for bulk prices. There was ROI. While searching a friend of mine posted his athletic wear on IG. It looked comfortable and well made so I messaged him asking who made it. He gave me the info needed to start the process. Well when I received the samples they were not the quality I hoped for. So I went back to the manufacturer and advised of the changes I wanted and needed. Instead of ordering another sample first I put in a bulk order believing the corrections would be made. After spending over 1200 for the order and shipping I received my order but he product was worse than the original sample. I was being to hasty to try to get the athletic wear out and I will never make that mistake again. It was definitely a lesson learned.

Kyle, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have always been a person who likes to wear clothes with my own thoughts/ideas on them. I used to just have friends make my t-shirts/hoodies for me. Once I had my children I wanted to leave a legacy for them. I would always get noticed for my creative wear so I just put it into action. Getting into the business required research. I started reading up on apparel companies and following a lot of business on social media. I was blessed to have a friend who is a trademark attorney. She helped me get started with trademarking and branding. My first idea was Detroit Respected Everywhere. This idea came to be because I noticed when I traveled and told people where I was from a persons mindset always changed. I seemed to always be respected a little more. Detroit is known for its hardworking citizens. Hard work is should always be respected. With that idea Respected Everywhere was branded. Out of all my current apparel Im most proud of Broken Generational Curse. Broken Generational Curse was made that we can and will overcome obstacles that hindered your family for generations. My mom was the first college graduate in my family. She left home to pursue her education. I want to show our future generations that they can be better than us. They can/will do things better than us. Accomplish more than their predecessors.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I’m still learning about building my audience via social media. I follow a few people who have their own clothing line. Most say social media is the way to go. I’m learning to post more reels and videos. Connect popular music to those reels and videos to get more plays on all the social media platforms. As a person who would rarely post on social media Ive had to create a habit of posting more. People want to feel like they have a relationship with businesses or celebrities or influencers (I currently only fit in the business category lol). I have to continue to post more so I and my business can be seen more on social media

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
I must say my best source of new clients is my friends and family supporting me. With them making purchases and sharing my content I always find someone new who at least likes what they see. They may not immediately go and purchase items but they at least go check out the website. Thats a start for me. Seeing what we have to offer is the beginning. I know this is a marathon not a sprint.
