We recently connected with Kyle and Lindy Majnaric and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kyle and Lindy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
We manage our social media accounts. We both enjoy capturing moments through pictures and videos, social media allows us a space to share what we are doing with viewers. We try to be as transparent as possible and communicate upcoming events through social media. The advice we would give other business owners is to be themselves when it comes to social media, don’t try to put on a fiscade or hide the pieces that God instilled in you to share with others, being transparent and you is unique and inspiring to those watching. With a business, you want to serve the customers, but don’t compromise who you are merely to try and please people, whatever you do, do it for the Lord. Not everyone is going to like the way you do things, and that’s okay. Serve humbly and work hard, accept advice and hear others out, but it’s not your job to please everyone, it’s actually impossible and you’ll get burned out trying. We definitely don’t take social media too seriously, and have a little fun with our videos, we both enjoy being creative and have a sense of humor, we have learned that people appreciate the authenticity. Our main platforms are instagram and facebook.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We were asked to be General Managers of Storytellers and the Hideaway Farm in the Fall of 2022. Brian and Sally, the owners kindly asked us to come on board and we know that this has been the Lord’s work of connecting us and providing this opportunity. We live on a farm and raise Texas longhorn just down the road from Storytellers and The Hideaway farm. The Hideaway Farm is Johnny Cash’s former farm which he owned for over 30 years until he passed away, it sits on 107 acres here in Bon Aqua, and just less than a mile down the road from the farm is the building at the crossroads called “Storytellers”. Johnny used to own the building and play at the stage there, he would only charge a dollar for people to come hear him at the little stage, he called it “Saturday nights in Hickman County”. The building became overgrown and abandoned, many people drove by it for years with little thought, Until one day, Brian and Sally were driving and paused at the crossroads as a cross caught their attention, they saw the building and initiated the project of restoring it. The building is now Storytellers, and there is live music here again. We are open three saturday’s every month for live music, open mics, and songwriters rounds. Part of the building is a store with vintage t-shirts, records, and other items for sale, there is also a beautiful outdoor space with a fountain and stage for weddings or events. The building often makes people feel as though they’re stepping back in time. We enjoy meeting new people that come through the door and strengthening friendships with the community. We start every show with a short video that shows footage of when Johnny Cash was on stage there as well as the restoring of the building, and how that relates to us, and a prayer, we then end the show with singing Amazing Grace all together. Down the road at the farm we have been doing tours, weddings and events. People have loved getting to see the house Johnny Cash used to own and spent a lot of time at, as well as seeing some of his belongings like the One Piece Of A Time Car, and hearing Mark Alan Cash sing, as well as the many stories that are tied to this place in Bon Aqua. Through tours we have been blessed to meet visitors from all over the world that come to hear more about Johnny Cash, each time they come they note the beauty of the 107 acres and the peacefulness. The beauty here isn’t that a man lived there, its about the creator that designed the place. As someone once said after attending a Billy Graham crusade Johnny Cash was performing at, “I came only to hear Johnny Cash–but I heard a lot more, and i’m going home with Jesus” that is our prayer over this place. We don’t know what it all will look like in the future at the Hideaway, but we pray for people to encounter the Savior, to feel the extraordinary joy and peace that isn’t provided by this world, to know that they’re not too far gone, Christ offers forgiveness and new life. The stories and memories of this location are not all pretty, some are really sad and reveal the brokenness of humanity, but even through that we hope people are reminded of the truth; everything that the enemy intends for evil, God can use for good, and Jesus Christ is the truth and the light, He redeems and restores everything that is broken. The love of Christ is unmatched, and we pray we can be His witnesses and share the gospel to those who come to this place.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Having the opportunity to create is such a gift, the process of it all tends to be even more rewarding than the outcome. We both enjoy our creative projects from writing, filming, calligraphy, editing, drawing, singing, and songwriting. For us, we have found it is much more inspiring and life giving when we invite the Holy Spirit in to join us for those creative times. There is freedom in understanding you don’t have to be amazing at something that you’re interested in or enjoy doing. Creativity is an outlet for trial and error, and in the perceived failures there is growth and learning. The time we get to create is therapeutic and as we feel inspired by the Lord it brings us closer to Him. The added bonus of creating is getting to share it with others, and share the story behind what we were able to create. We pray to keep using the gifts God gives us for His glory and to further the Kingdom, and even in our weakness we will boast all the more of those, for in our weaknesses His power is made perfect.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Kyle met Brian Oxley at a mens prayer breakfast at Cross Roads Cowboy Church. The two started talking and discovered some common interests including music, ministry, and storytelling.
