We were lucky to catch up with Kyle and Jordan Bridges recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kyle and Jordan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
In college we worked for 12th Man Productions at Texas A&M working behind the scenes in sports broadcasting and got our first real taste of production and camera work. After graduating in 2014, we got married and stayed in creative fields but had transitioned into work beyond the camera. After a few years we started considering starting up our own shop, and thanks to some friends starting a travel company of their own, Kyle was hired to tag along to create photo and video content for their website and social media channels and Shot Maker Media took off!
Kyle and Jordan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
We are a husband-and-wife team that specializes in photography and videography. We offer documentary style photography and cinematography for weddings, portraits, travel, sports, corporate, and podcasts. Our dynamic offers multiple perspectives that let us tell our clients’ stories in a cohesive manner where photos and videos seamlessly pair together because they are shot and edited by the same company. With the ever-changing landscape of social media, being able to offer video content has become key in showcasing our what our clients do. By offering videos specifically designed for Instagram Reels and Tik-Tok, our clients and companies can reach bigger audiences than ever before in addition to the traditional photo and video work we are already creating.
We care deeply about the work we do and want our clients to feel that their portraits, and videos will be heirloom pieces that they are proud to pass down and share with friends and family.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being creative in your experience?
To us the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the ability to journey with our clients from vision to product. Being able to capture our couples is one of our favorite parts of the experience from meeting in person or on Zoom prior to wedding day to the moment we deliver galleries and videos, the entire project is beyond rewarding to see couples’ stories unfold. Past the experience of working with our couples, nothing brings us more joy than to see images printed, framed, and enjoyed in their purest form, a phone can’t come close to seeing tangible art.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When we first started Shot Maker Media, Kyle’s first purchase was a professional drone. He thought he would focus on shooting real estate for large properties in the Houston, Texas area. He spent the next few of months earning his drone pilot license (which was more challenging than you might think) and started doing some aerial photography and videography. Shortly after this, Kyle purchased his first traditional camera to capture more traditional style portraits. A few months later, a cousin of ours asked us about filming her wedding, and we dove headfirst. As the months grew into years, what once would have been solely a drone real estate business expanded into capturing weddings, work, and life’s little moments. We are honored to capture and share so many of our client’s stories from wedding day and beyond, we create media with meaning.
