We were lucky to catch up with Kyla Muratore recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kyla thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
I think I started it at the right time. I was juggling a 9-5 working for a big beauty brand and enjoyed it, but had bigger aspirations for myself as I grew in my career. I really loved what I did there – Social Media Marketing for a few luxury beauty and skincare brands, and I knew that I wanted to think a bit more outside of the box, cut a bit of the red tape, and try new things.
If I started sooner, I would have had a lot of anxiety, to be honest. Living in a big city with big girl responsibilities is hard in general, but when you need to financially make it on your own without the security of a paycheck, it’s stressful!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into the industry back in 2013 – I started as a Social Media Coordinator at a hair care company and grew throughout that time, being fortunate to work with brands like Stila Cosmetics, Christian Louboutin Beauty, St. Tropez Tan, Smashbox Cosmetics, GLAMGLOW…. the list goes on.
That experience afforded me the opportunity to learn from the best, and to have an agency mindset while working on the brand side. Our teams were small and mighty and had to wear all hats in order to market these brands successfully in Canada.
My work experience taught me so much of what Babe still does today – Social Media Marketing (of course), Content Strategy and Execution, Art Direction, Production, Influencer Management and Experiential Events.
I loved what I did so much and wanted to try my hand at helping female founded businesses grow in North America – I took my experience and started Babe Creative in 2018.
We work on everything you see on your screen with some of your favourite brands.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn imposter syndrome – we all have it sometimes, but it can eat away at you. I really believe that we all deserve a seat at the table and there’s room for all of us.
Insecurity can stop you from taking the leap, trusting your instincts and creating the life you really want. It’s fear-based and doesn’t always serve you, so I try my best to let that be the quietest voice in my head and listen to my gut instead.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Babe Creative has always been self-funded. I saved as much as I could when I started (which was NOT much!) and took the leap.
