We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kyla Chika. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kyla below.
Kyla, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
One of the most meaningful projects I’ve ever worked on was my final concert, “My Refflection”. This project was powerful for many reasons, but the one that stands out most was the level of faith it demanded from me to bring it to life.
During the planning stages, I found myself trying to contain the vision within the limits of my budget and personal network. It felt safer to work within what I thought was realistic and manageable. However, this experience taught me the importance of having the right people on your team—those who challenge you to step out of your comfort zone and fully embrace the vision God has placed in your heart.
My Creative Director and Choreographer, Imani Paris, was pivotal in this process. As I described my ideas to her, she pushed me to recognize that my vision required more than what I was initially willing to pursue. Her encouragement forced me to confront my fears and expand my team, my performers, and ultimately, my faith. At first, I resisted—I was angry and frustrated at the thought of stretching beyond the plans I had carefully crafted. But deep down, I knew she was right.
What followed was a complete transformation of the project. My team grew to include over 30 talented individuals. We secured a well-renowned theater as our venue and incorporated large-scale components that I had never worked with before. It was both exhilarating and terrifying, but ultimately, it allowed me to step into my role as an artist and visionary in a way I never had before.
This concert wasn’t just a performance—it was a testament to the power of faith, collaboration, and stepping into the unknown. It reminded me that great art often requires us to trust the process, even when it feels impossible. “My Refflection” wasn’t just my project; it was a reflection of the growth and faith it took to bring it to life.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My journey into the entertainment industry began with a leap of faith. God wanted to reveal to me that I was more than just a scientist—He showed me that I had gifts beyond what I imagined. These gifts weren’t just meant to be acknowledged; they were meant to be used to impact lives and shift perspectives.
Music became a significant part of my life in high school. My mother worked hard to ensure we attended a good school, one that would equip us for the next stages of our journey. That environment nurtured not only my academic growth but also my artistic talents, marking the beginning of my advancement in the arts. I never imagined that those early steps would lead me to where I am today.
Now, I am proud to say that I wear many hats. I am a singer-songwriter, recording artist, actress, and business owner. Through my corporate band, I bring energy and joy to events, while my solo performances allow me to connect with audiences in a deeply personal way—whether opening for other artists, singing the national anthem, or sharing original music. As a songwriter, I craft stories for others through music, and as an actress, I bring stories to life on stage and screen.
My vision is to master my craft, act in films with meaningful messages, and one day produce movies that reflect my unique vision.
Looking back, I’m incredibly grateful for my growth—not just as an artist but as a woman of faith and character. While I am still evolving, I’m proud of the patience, wisdom, and resilience I’ve developed.
I’m especially excited about my upcoming project, Reflection. This album is deeply personal, capturing the lessons I’ve learned on my journey—especially as I’ve pursued my purpose with all my heart. It’s a testament to the beauty of trusting God’s plan and embracing every part of the process.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
On my journey as an artist and business owner, I’m learning that marketing is one of the most critical elements of success. It’s not just about creating amazing music, products, or services—it’s about ensuring they reach the right audience. Without proper reach, even the most talented creatives can struggle to make the impact they dream of or generate the revenue they desire.
Often, the issue isn’t the quality of the product or service. Instead, it’s a matter of connecting with the right audience—those who truly value and resonate with what you’re offering. Building that bridge between your work and the people who need it most is what ultimately transforms potential into influence and dreams into reality.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Absolutely, there is a clear goal and mission driving my creative journey. I genuinely believe I wouldn’t be on this path if it weren’t rooted in purpose. My mission is to change lives for the better—encouraging people, helping them discover their identity, building closer relationships with Christ, and ultimately inspiring them to live out their life’s purpose.
I know that God placed me here not just to contribute to the scientific world but also to thrive in the creative space. Creativity allows me to bring forth ideas that the world has never seen before and share them in ways that inspire transformation. History shows us that some of the most impactful inventions, ideologies, revelations, and breakthroughs were born through creativity.
For a time, I lost touch with that part of myself, shutting down my gifts and creative expression. But God, in His wisdom, redirected me. Now, I embrace my gifts fully, using them to share my story and create meaningful impact in the lives of others. This journey is more than just artistry—it’s a calling to use creativity as a tool to inspire, uplift, and connect.
